Re: Help
Not my breed please
![]() ![]() ![]() The leonbergers will more than likely be endorsed. Its virtually guaranteed if they were bought in the UK. They need testing for Hips, elbows and hereditary cataract. they also need DNAing for Leonberger Polyneuropathy. There are a few lines in the UK that are carrying the gene for it, especially those with foreign ancestors LPN is a debilitating nervous disease. Urge them to contact the breeder. They will be desperate to hear that they are considering breeding. (If possible, can you pm me the name of the person they are registered to, will be treated with complete discretion). Here is a recent survey that was carried out that is showing an increasing percentage of leos that ave needed c sections: http://www.leonbergerunion.com/ILU%2...y%20survey.htm

pups resulting from the dog with the endorsement on its papers cannot be registered. Unless the new owners of said pup, apply to the pups breeder to get the endorsement lifted. However, I believe it doesnt stop anyone breeding with their KC registered but endorsed pup, it just means that they cannot KC register the result of the mating if they breed from them. Thats why you often see litters where the parents are KC reg. but the pups for sale are not.

Re: Help
Endorsements don't stop people breeding, and there are no penalties, unless a contract has been signed as well, which stipulates any allowances for breeding plans.
The only thing an endorsement does is prevent KC registration, either here, or abroad. You can still take a dog abroad with endorsements in place, you just may not be able to register it with a foreign KC, I know Swarthy's had one of her pups exported but I'm not sure of all the details and if/how it was registered abroad, if it needed to be. And I'm sure there may well be variations from country to country. I *think* in the US, endorsements are viewed very differently, as they are permanent, or they were the last time I was involved in any discussions about them. |

Re: Help
Cheers guys, in this case then I'm not sure the endorsement would be enought to stop him, but that would just be a guess but I don't think he would be kc registering from what I grasped. I will try to find out more in a couple of weeks.

Re: Help
You could make a point of without KC reg, he will never sell a leo. A few months ago, someone was trying to sell unreg leos. In the end asked just £450 for them (usually £1000) and as far as I know, they still have 4 left (out of 6). They must be 6 months old now.

There are no Leonbergers without "foreign" ancestors Tanya! Breeders tend to bring in dogs from overseas for breeding to broaden the gene pool and to bring health benefits to a breed which, after the war, was down to very low numbers indeed. |
