Pregnant or not pregnant

Hi I would really be grateful of some advice about whether my dog is going through a false pregnancy
Sorry more details would be good. My spaniel was last in season in early September and unfortunately when I left her with friends their male collie did apparently have access to her (this I only learnt in the last two weeks). She is a very fit dog and as we live in the sticks she has no trouble jumping 5foot walls etc (obviously not in one leap). She is no fatter but has enlarged teats and is lactating, and I would say her rib cage is bigger but no bulging belly. I have taken her to the vets where she was examined by two vets who both said 99% not pregnant, I enquired about a scan and xray to which they said if she was pregnant the scan wouldn't pick it up as she is so far on and they don't want to xray as they would have to sedate her and that's not good for pregnant dog. She is nesting but not filling her nest with toys etc, she has been more loving but as she is an affectionate dog never noticed the subtle changes in the beginning.

Only the vet will be able to tell you that.

Re: Pregnant or not pregnant

Well, we might a bit more info

Was your bitch mated with your knowledge or are you thinking she may have been 'caught'??

How far on would she be if she is pregnant?

How is she looking and acting??

A scan at the vets will confirm one way or the other............

Re: Pregnant or not pregnant

Well I would go by the vets then, if you've had her checked already. SOunds like a phantom to me, by what you've said. Lets hope there isnt just one or two pups in there! Am sure if there was more, she would deffo be showing more signs by now.

In season and mated in the first ten days of Sept would give you a due date around NOW!!

Re: Pregnant or not pregnant

I know it would be about now, so just to be on the safe side I am taking her temperature every few hours, she seems to be averaging at 37.5c which is about 99.5f so that seems ok.

I'd class that as a drop!!

But then, really, you ought to take the temp a good week or so beforehand to get a true 'normal' vor the bitch, then watch for a lowering. Have you done this??

Re: Pregnant or not pregnant

She was averaging 38.15 and 38.28c up till last night. I think I should mention I have not seen any movement and her tummy is really firm, like I said before she is fit, but she does have very enlarged/lactating teats. I know this will sound silly but she isn't what I would call the mothering type she has no interest in playing with other dogs when out for a run (but she never attacks), she just has no interest, she would much rather be finding the next rabbit to chase.

Re: Pregnant or not pregnant

Ember is showing all the signs of being pregnant, but she had 2 scans and no puppies. She would of been due next week, her nipples are large and getting ready for milk.
