Another litter so soon!

This is what I feel like today
a neighbour of mine is planning on breeding from his dog again! She only had pups earlier this year no health tests no reason for doing it other than it's good money and he homes the pups asap and therefore some of them go before they should do. He tells me he could have sold the last litter of pups twice over he tells me none of the people who bought his pups asked about health tests and that he'll get 'as many litters as he can out of her'. I just find it rather depressing... I've tried to talk to him about it before and have harped on about it till I am blue in the face - makes no odds to him. I'm trying to persuade him to health test and give her a break before contemplating another litter but I know he won't because in his mind there is no need - ie he is selling the pups without anybody taking an interest in these things aargh! Sorry but I just had to rant.

What's to be done? Prolly nothing

Re: Another litter so soon!

I see a advert and googled the number the other day they seem to have about 3 litters of crosses every 6 months, feel so sorry for the dogs

Recently see a byb kitten breeder (my breed) so felt even more annoyed when they said they did it for money, I was like how do you make money?! Easy let them go at 7weeks of age no health tests and half the price of fully health tested paper ones

Just wish the public would wise up and stop bloody buying them

Re: Another litter so soon!

Nothing you can do other than try to advise them and stop them from breeding. I tried the same with neighbours of mine, two lots who are friends, one has a male Malamute the other a female Malamute. Told them about health tests, too many in rescue - blah blah blah but they weren't interested!

Good news was that although they let the dogs be together for the entire season every day for a few hours the boy just wasn't interested -REEESULT!!!!
So now they think he's a "jaffa" and are going to get him done, the bitch is being spayed too - just as well as she isn't two til next April!

Totally agree with you. Why the bloody hell are people buying them without asking such vital questions! It's not like he is selling his pups any cheaper than any other decent breeder of his breed. In any other aspect of life when spending several hundreds of pounds people are careful about what they are buying and look into things/don't part with their cash easily but why not the same with pups? Recently I bought a new camera and it took me 3 months of research to decide to the point where my OH was saying ffs just buy one. Why are people not more diligent about something way more important like their beloved pets? I just don't get it at all ...

Ah well at least that is a result of sorts Malmum. All we can do is keep trying to influence isn't it? To him I am sounding like a stuck record but I don't care, I'll keep on about it

Re: Another litter so soon!

Same neighbour down the road was telling me today that I am 'crazy' to spend £200 on an operation for my poorly cat. He said that if any of his pets cost him that he would have them PTS... for the sake of his poor bitch I hope there's no complications with her next litter then
I'm so cross words actually fail me.

Sadly, whilst they have a market these type will not stop

How can we educate people not to buy from these low lives, I do believe the message is getting accross , but just not quickly enough

I know, I just wish I could DO something - I know not what... I feel so desperately sorry for his little dog knowing that she is obligingly producing pups at several hundred pounds a time to pay for his social life yet if she were ever in need of anything herself then she would just be disposed of. I said to him that if you have a pet you should make a commitment to it for all it's life - he just shook his head and said 'I don't agree' Sadly there are hundreds like him in this world... Whatever I say to him changes absolutely nothing at all. I feel upset and powerless right at this moment
Apologies for whingeing on.
