Help whats the chances?

Lily was in labour all Sunday gave birth to one puppy at 8 30 ish on Monday but it had separated from the placenta and the bag was off it was still born. She still acted like she was in labour I was expecting 4 to 6 pups. After 3 hours I called the vets took her in they couldn't feel anymore , temp was normal, did an internal felt nothing. They took x rays but the developing machine broke down so they didn't turn out. The one vet called me a couple of times to see how she was and she had quit panting and was shivering sometimes but not like before, was resting, drinking and urinating. So we decided to watch her overnight she gave me her emergency number. So we were sad but happy that Lily was okay. The night went fine and shivering was only sporadic and not much, so I called the vet and let her know.

Well 8 30 this morning I heard a little noise looked and she has a very active lil girl. Because I didn't think we had anymore I have no idea if she passed the placenta, and what are the chances that there is another one? I have a call into the vet who is out on a call right now until after lunch....

Re: Help whats the chances?

Oh Blimey what a roller coaster - congrats on the little girl - there's possibly a good chance mum has eaten the placenta.

How long ago did she have the pup (I know you are in a different time zone to us) - my girls first litter she had about 2 hours between pups until the last two which were 5 hours apart.

Have you been able to get her out for a wee (don't leave her on her own) - I found when I threw my girl in the car (not literally) to whisk her to the vet, it appeared to kick start things again and she had a pup in the car.

Her daughter seemed to want to hang onto the pups and needed Oxytocin to get her going - I am surprised the vet didn't give your girl a jab when she was there?

What the vets did say to me is as my girl was quite solid - the only way they could guarantee whether there was any more pups in there or not was to x-ray her.

I think if it was me, I would be asking for Oxytocin which should speed things up if there is anything left in there

Hopefully some with more experience than me will be along to give some advice.

8:30 ish this morning the pup was still wet so know thats pretty close its now 11 30 here... so 4 hours She had the first one at exactly 8 46 am Oct 31. Mom has peed and been drinking water, the cord looked like she had taken care of it where as with the first you could tell it broke not chewed if you understand that. I think they didn't give her the Oxy as they were so confident there were no more and I knew she had eaten the placenta..Thank you

Re: Help whats the chances?

What a lovely colour

Would it hurt the vets to give her an oxytocin jab even if there are no more pups in there? I would have thought it would help expel anything left in the womb quicker

Hope you get some answers - and hope the little one continues to thrive

Re: Help whats the chances?

I don't know when she calls me back I'll ask as I would gladly have it done, I was surprised they didn't do it either to be honest...
