Re: Cavalier King Charles - How much to give to male dog owner

I only watched one of those videos as it was so distressing I really hope it makes both the OP and Stellabella think long and hard about what they're doing here

Re: Cavalier King Charles - How much to give to male dog owner

I'm pretty sure that sparkle and missmoomoo are both addressing Stellabella as she has just said she thinks there is a possibility her bitch *may* be pregnant already and the OP hasn't been back since her first post so....... I could well be wrong though

Some people appear to be aiming their comments at the wrong poster on this thread

Was just about to say hasnt Stellabella said she has done all the tests apart from the newer one? I thought some of the comments were a little harsh

Woah there...JEEZ...some people should learn to READ more slowly....!!!!

Look at the post I was quoting - it directly referred to the DNA test for Episodic Falling and Dry Eye/Curly Coat syndrome. A test as new and recent as APRIL 2011!!

I would ask any one of you to read through my previous posts - and see exactly where I stand on the health of the Cavalier!

For the record....I have had

BVA/KC/ISDS - HC/MRD CLEAR - Sept 10 and August 11

MVD Heart Test CLEAR - Sept 10 and August 11

MRI - SM GRADE A - November 10

I have also emailed the DNA test supplier to see if a potential pregnancy would affect a DNA result if I were to do one now.

So, those of you who have felt fit to have a go, I hope you are suitably satisfied,

....and to those of you who have followed my infrequent posts and know and respect what I am trying to do, I thank you for your support!

The one with the possibly pregnant bitch (stellabella) says she had all tests bar the one that's a new one she didn't know was available yet. The OP hasn't been back and hasn't mentioned whether her bitch is in pup or not, just how much she should pay for it.

whoops that'll teach me for coming on here after a long shift at work! my sincerist appologies stellabella as I thought you were the OP

Re: Cavalier King Charles - How much to give to male dog owner

Why thank you!!

It easy sometimes to read things wrong, and as you so often see, there are so many who don't do even the basic tests, let alone the MRI.

Even among well established breeders. there are still many who don't.

It is often not because they are wanting to fool anyone, save money, or close their eyes to this hideous disease, it's often because there is still a huge amount of research going on around Syringomyelia and the best way for MRI scans to be taken/evaluated, and their future inclusion into Kennel Club Health testing scheme (like the one for eyes - the heart tests are a breed club programme).

Many breeders feel that they want to wait for a better screening programme, and, as it's not by any means compulsory (or perfect), want to wait and push for a scheme to be brought in which can offer the best long term solution to eradicate SM.

I personally feel that as it is the only way at the moment that we can assess the dogs we want to breed from, then we owe it to those dogs and their progeny to MRI. Also, the more people that do, then the more data they will have to 'fine tune' their screening programme for the future. As I see it, even if my girl didn't catch (this was a repeat mating), the tests she has had will play a little part in that.
