Choosing a KC Name

After an argument with a friend of mine I thought i'd come on here and ask.

I have my perfect dog set in my mind a stunning deep rich red male sibe, I have already chosen the name Hayes after Darren Hayes my aboslte favourite singer.

Now the argument is no good breeder would let me pick out a name for a kc name

etc kennel name/breeders name Burning for you

(I have Burning for you, Lucky town and Bloodstained heart in mind, again these are lyrics and titles of darren hayes songs)

I want this to also be my first show dog (i've not found a breeder because it's going to be some years from now and want to go to dog shows to get an idea and such)

but would you say that it would make someone a bad breeder if they would let you pick the kc name? I think this is silly but my friend knows a little more than me as she due to breed her first litter soon and has been showing for 10 or so years now.

Thanks

Re: Choosing a KC Name

I picked Alaska's and helped pick Aidens but it had to start with "moon" or have "moon" in it, that was the breeders only request.

Each breeder will have a different way of doing things.

I am guessing this would be with the American Kennel Club because your moving to the states in the next few years? I am not sure how American breeders do things.

Best of luck.

Re: Choosing a KC Name

A lot of breeders have themes. If you know the breeder they may let you help but no it wouldn't Make them a bad breeder to let you choose
Ps I love Darren Hayes and savage garden

Re: Choosing a KC Name

I got to choose Skye's name, just had the breeder's affix at the start and I let the new owner's of the pups I bred choose their puppies KC names with my affix. I know people that have bought pups with no choice, had a choice between names already picked by the breeder, could choose but within a theme, so I think it all depends on the breeder.

Re: Choosing a KC Name

Anyone who has booked one of my pups before I have registered them is welcome to think of their own name for their pup. It means that my pups often don't have themes for their names. I think the first litter we bred were all types of fushia apart from the 2 we kept who had names that meant something to us.

Re: Choosing a KC Name

I was given a choice with one of mine, the breeder only stipulated that she was to be named after a flower and the word "Desert" before it. I wasn't too bothered but I know someone else managed to persuade my breeder to allow her to name her pup something completely unrelated to the rest of the litter.

A lot of breeders tend to have a theme in mind and don't like it to be disrupted, but as it's been said, it depends on the breeder if you can change their mind.

Re: Choosing a KC Name

I always have a litter theme and pick the names for the pups, then let the owners pick which one they want. But this time, my dearest friend kept pestering for a different name, not to do with the theme, lol! I kept telling him no no no - but he persisted and coz this is prob the last rottie he will ever have, I relented and let him have his choice - Ceearott Tangled Up In Blue.

Nowt to do with being a bad breeder or not - thats just plain silly to say that!
