I'm not too sure....

Hey, I've got a female staffy (roughly about 1 not sure though coz we just adopted her a week ago) and she is in season (we were told when we adopted her that she had been fixed!) her lady area is really swollen and is a lot more noticeable than it was before she came into season will this reduce and go back to normal when she comes off or will it stay this way now?

It should go back to normal when her season is finished.

yes it will go back to normal when she is finished,
you know about keeping her in/not letting her off lead when she is in season dont you?
also just to be aware of things like pyometra,
wil you be booking her in for her spay op now?
best time is three months from now

yeh she gets walked early in the morning when there's less chance of those frisky males being around, then during the day she's out in the garden (being watched even though our garden is fenced i know what these males are like lol) and when i can't watch her or if she's just tired she'll come and play around or sleep or whateverb then she'll get another walk when its a bit darker (again to avoid attention from others). I also spray her with that Bitch Spray as an extra precaution just in case!

I did take her to see the vet when she first starting spotting (to double check it was spotting as like i said we were told she was fixed!) he told me about keeping an eye on her as there possible infections and things (but at the time i didn't realise how swollen her bits actually were so never asked him about it going back to normal)

and yes we most certainly are getting her done afterwards I don't think its fair breeding her, number one i wouldn't know completly what i was doing (i know the basics just through books and things but i would not use my dog as a guinea pig or a test run that would be cruel. Also we have a 8 month old puppy (staffie aswell, she's the one in the signature pic) and although i know she wouldn't hurt puppies i think she has sorta taken Jess (the newer addition) on as her mum and wouldn't like that she couldn't play and roll around with her in the garden. They are perfectly happy just them 2 and i wouldn't want to spoil it. AND NUMBER 3!! THERE ARE ENOUGH STAFFS IN THE WORLD WITHOUT HOMES WITHOUT ME ADDING TO IT!!

HA this is the stupid bit! We asked (the rescue shelter that we got her from) if she had been spayed (obviously so we knew to get her done or when she would next be in season etc) and they said that she had a scar on her belly where they think she had been done (she was very giddy at the time so we didn't have the opportunity there and then to check it) so being a reputable shelter we took their word for it.

Got her home to find the scar they were talking about is only her flipping belly button!! Shan't recommend that shelter to anyone!!

Good job you noticed the spotting and swelling! A friend of mine adopted from one of our main pounds, and adopted a 2yr old spayed female rottie... 3 weeks later I was delivering a litter of 9 rottie mixes!

It's always a good idea to get a female adoptee a full vet check the next day you take her hone- along with a scan to check of she's deffinately spayed or not; my vet is So neat with his spay scars that you have to Really look to even think you see it!

Shelter dogs rock! I hope your girls stay the best of friends!

Re: I'm not too sure....

I must admit this has happened at our rescue we had a female staffie all booked into be spayed and vac the vet called to say she already had a spay scar and didn't need doing... We knew she had a scar but was unsure ourselves but went on the vets advice.

She only came into season when in her new home... Of course we will cover and organise her spay but it's not ideal for her new owners... We were guided by our trusted vets who said no reason to open her up.

If it's a reputable rescue they with a neutering policy they should cover this for you?
