Help!

Hi There! My name is Amanda and I am totally new to this web-site and it looks just what I have been looking for!!

I am looking after a friends dog of 9 months and to be honest at my wits end. Its humping everything and whats more worrying a friend dropped by with her female dog and they immediatley ran off before we could do anything. Can a 9month old dog be capable of getting a bitch pregnant???

Would appreciate any help and fast!

Thanks
Amanda

I think if she's at the fertile time in her oestrus then yes he could get her pregnant
If you post in the dog chat or breeding section your thread will get more people seeing it & hopefully someone will be able to advise you

Re: Help!

Yes, very much so is the answer. Is your friend's bitch in season? Inexperienced dogs can and will hump anything, including spayed bitches, and they don't even have to be entire themselves. Usually what happens if he actually hits the target, is that they tie and stay joined together for a period of time (I won't go into the gory details of the whys and wherefores), but slip matings can happen, where they don't stay tied, and this can still end in pregnancy.

*If* your friend's bitch is in season, the best option is for her to take her girl to the vets for a mismate jab. If your friend is unsure, the best option is still to take her down to the vets to have her checked over. I've never had to take a bitch for this, and I understand it's a course of two injections, but caught early enough it really is the best option.
