Yes too many people think of Bulldogs like that, mainly people that know nothing of the breed.

I know quite a few bulldog breeders... they never let the mating happen naturally. They always have someone come in who basically does it for them.
My mate has a Bulldog and she is now 6 months old. I went take some photos for her.. and I am sorry her girl was impo FAT AS FARK lol poor girl could hardly walk. Her answer to me.. she is average weight for a bulldog. OMG...
So I assume.. this girl is still based on old breeding and the bulldog breeders I know are exhibitors and I assume they are still old breeding? I have seen more and more "self Whelpers" advertised in bulldogs.. just like the pugs.. they do seem to be moving forward?

With a pre-booked caesarean, do they bond with the pups easily or is it difficult to get them to bond? Also how many caesareans would, say, a breeding bulldog bitch typically have during her breeding career?

Re: C-Sections Drawing the line

My friend had a prebooked c-section on a pug.... and the mom killed 2 of the puppies .. she seemed ok with them... my mate constantly checking on them etc but when she woke up to a sound of chewing she found blood shed :-(

my mate had to hand rear the others. If they have given birth to one puppy and have a c-section it is easier. Not sure how people get on with prebooked c-sections. Maybe some moms bond in time.. some never do. A risk I guess you take?

Re: C-Sections Drawing the line

I have always read/been told that the risk of mum rejecting her c-section pups is less if you allow her to go into labour before operating. Never a sure thing tho, and no hard-and-fast rules can ever apply re c-sections. But if there is a definite family history of bitches not being able to whelp, I don't know if I could in all conscience mate the bitch in the first place.

This is true when a bitch starts labour a hormone is released which is why unless its an emergency a vet wont preform a section without the onset of labour x

I assume your talking about AI which is frowned upon although there is breeders that use this method a lot but dont declare it to the KC which your supposed to..

Id say your mates bulldog is too fat if she can hardly walk its just not right and totally unfair on her girl..

Hopefully the self whelping is guna be a thing of the future im not 100% convinced that all the advertised self whelpers have... how many ppl going to buy a pup is guna ask you to show them your bitches belly to make sure...
