Question little confused!!

i hve a staffordshire bull terrier she had a succesfull mating with our own stud she is due an approx 7 days time give or take as you know but she had started to act a little strange she carries her pups high n then they drop a couple of weeks before shes due but this time has not done so her behavour is different shes pinning, crying constantly, taking toys into her crate sleeping more as normally they do but also has gone off her food which also is what they do.
i dont do scans as i dont believe in them to me if your breeding they either are pregnant or they are not you cant change this fact but my concern is that shes acting different to what she has done before if anyone has any information for me it would be greatly welcomed as i am slightly confused
thanks
Hannah (jolandstaff )

Re: little confused!!

At a guess I would say she is possibly not pregnant, but is having a phantom. Is she producing any milk? Have you felt any puppies move?

It is always best to scan, as although it will not change the outcome, it will confirm a pregnancy or not and then you do not risk over-feeding a bitch that isn't pregnant and making her fat.

Re: little confused!!

hi thanks for the reply but no she isnt producing any milk, but then she has a few days to go yet, she had had a previous litter and that went very well she milked up just a few days before she gave birth, with that litter she never looked pregant untill the last week so you can understand our confusion on this. it could be normal for some bitches but cause we have never witnessed this its all new to us
thanks
Hannah

Re: little confused!!

Why not just take her to a vet and get her examined?

Re: little confused!!

I think you have to see the vet for a pre whelping consultation - I always do this for my bitch at 10 to 7 days before.

Last time he said "Is that an elephant she's carrying?"

Eleven pups all safely delivery naturally.

But go see at the vets,

Sgurr

Re: little confused!!

Does sound rather phantom behaviour to me.

Have you got a pic, or can you take a pic of her on her back so we can see her belly??? maybe even a side pic ??
