Re: what's the best age to pick?

As late as you can leave it is probaly best because lots of things can change in a few days. For showing then really the later the better but sadly things don't work out like that!

You will probaly visit the pups and just fall in love with one because common sense goes out your head when you see them

Re: what's the best age to pick?

Information I have states attraction 5 to 7 weeks, Puppies notice other things and begin to form attractions to people.
It also states Human Socialisation 7 to 12 weeks, At this age a puppy has the brain waves of an adult and the intellectual capacity to process his experiences. It also suggests doing the Puppy aptitude test at this time to match puppies to buyers.
The Breeder should be handling the pups well before this time though and giving them introductions in general.
This is actually from a breed specific book, and it is approximates after all,
but it should give you a basic guide in general I would have thought.

Re: what's the best age to pick?

I would say around 5 - 6 weeks, they change so much though and so quickly, my two were like twins but so different in looks and temperaments now.

Re: what's the best age to pick?

I think it does depend on the breed and if you are looking for a pet or for showing but I find 6 weeks is usually a good time and as late as possible if you are looking for a pup with show potential.

Re: what's the best age to pick?

Over 6 weeks I would say

Bear in mind some breeds change colours right up to about two years old, but by that time you'll be completely in love and wont care!!
