Question Scratching other dogs?

Have put this here as well as training as dont know where to put it and it may be something breeders have seen/experienced

Percy is a 18 month old entire chinese crested.
When he is feeling a bit overexcited or amorous he wil scratch furiously at Willow's (16 month GR) coat, both front paws furiously scratching which ends up pulling out undercoat. It can be on any part of the body but quite often her chest. Sometimes this is followed by humping her.
Now Willow doesn't mind this, infact she loves it as being a goldie she loves a good scratch and rub. It doesnt damage her coat as he doesnt do it often enough in the same spot. So the behaviour itself isnt really a problem I was just interested if anyone had any views on it or had seen it before?
He did do it to a friendly male german shepherd we were walking with the other day as well. As well as some other female dogs that we meet. More gentle than he does it to Willow though. Obviously I am very careful to watch the body language of dogs involved as it may not be welcome by some.

Re: Scratching other dogs?

Didn't want to 'turn and run' as no-one else has responded yet.

Not really sure what to suggest - I know my youngest boy likes to 'nibble' my girils - their heads, their ears - they will happily put up with it for hours (even my girls who have no times for boys normally !!) - I think his courting rituals are going to be a bit more subtle than my older boy - who is a bit more "I will give you a kiss and once I have, you've pulled" (the girls like the 'pulling bit' - it's the determination to give them a kiss they seem not so keen on!!!)

It certainly seems a 'strange' one, but also one that's going to be very difficult to stop if your girl loves having it done as much as he likes doing it

Chances are, he may not stop until he gets told off - maybe it's a CC mating ritual

Thanks for replying, interesting to hear about your boys nibbling tactics.
I think like you say it must be his pulling technique, having not had both sexes before its just fascinating to see their little ways they interact with oneanother

I'ld personally say from our experience thats exactly what it is! Kioti and Mika do it, and my little Mydus has started to we have used Kioti once and he pawed away almost wacking her into some flirting play our girls do it to though, paw away at the boys to get them interested lol - ours often do it just in play and will paw at the floor and sofa in the same way to get some attention from the others..Crazy Kids!

- I wasn't that far off the mark then - they are cute little dogs, maybe we need one here to keep my pack in order

My eldest boy goes into meltdown when he encounters little dogs (mind you he does when faced with my 5 bitches as well - a force to be reckoned with ) - he "knows his place" shall we say
