Re: Dogs with out an affix..

There are many Leos without an affix that do incredibly well in the ring.

There is also a very big breeder of hounds (I think, but not my group, so not sure- just what I've been told) who hasn't got an affix. He registers each pup with his initials for example John Smith is the breeder, all his pups are registered as Jaffa Sponge (ok a really bad example but you get the idea ).
Jenny Olley likes this.

Yes, I know a couple of breeders WITH affixes that use an additional (and same) word on every single puppy they breed.

In my experience of pet owners generally, I don't think a lot of them would be any the wiser, or care less. Many people who go to the top kennels often do so because they want to have a dabble in the showring / field which may or may not including considering breeding at some time in the future.

In my first litter we had someone who asked for a specific KC name for their dog, I couldn't 'fit it in' with the characters available including my affix - so gave them an adaptation of it - but I know they were disappointed, and would probably have been happier if I had just given the dog the name they wanted without it my affix; they were also the only owners considering breeding - as it happens, they decided not to in the end and had their girl neutered.

Re: Dogs with out an affix..

In Canada you apply for your kennel name if it gets approved then you have to wait for it to become permanent. so at first its temporary and is renewed every year with your membership. You only pay the once for the Name until you qualify for it to be permanent and this is the requirement for it to be permanent.

PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY IN INK.
In order to apply for Permanent Kennel Name Registration,
the following conditions must be met:
1. CKC Membership has been maintained for a minimum period of ten (10)
consecutive years.
2. The applicant(s) has bred purebred dogs for a minimum of ten (10) years.
3. The applicant(s) has never been subjected to disciplinary action by the
Canadian Kennel Club.
4. The applicant(s) has owned and/or bred not less than five (5) dogs registered
individually in the Club’s records, to each of which the CKC has
granted a title.
5. The registered name of each of the dogs referred to below includes, as
part of its registered name, the kennel name for which permanent registration
is being applied for.

Re: Dogs with out an affix..

Many years ago the top greyhound kennel owned by Ralph Parsons didn't have an affix.

Re: Dogs with out an affix..

Maybe people don't feel the need to have an affix relating to them stamped all over their dogs. I'm sure not everyone who shows/works is desperate to have their affix on their dog, I bet some aren't really that bothered and maybe that's why they don't bother.

I mean what if you applied for loads of affix's and kept getting rejected? I would rather have none than one I don't really like...

Re: Dogs with out an affix..

My ex's mum saved up for a nice Beagle.. she searched and searched.. In the end was referred to a well known beagle breeder who shows her dogs at crufts.. She new the ex mum just wanted a pet so let her have a pup who had been returned cause she had a heart murmur..
The ex mum took the pup.. paid £400.00 about 6 years ago.. the rest of the pups had been sold for £800.00.. I was stood there when she said to the ex mum now Im going to keep the papers so you can't sell her on.. for the full amount.. But if you want to breed her in the future contact me and I will supply you with the details you need to get the pups paper...

This woman is meant to be a good breeder and she shows.. but is obviously not fussed about what she breeds with.. *shocking*

Anyway said pup came home ex mum took her to her own vet for advice etc and when she came of age was spayed...

I know I dont mention he affix.. But just thought i would let you know there are a lot of breeders that are supposed to be respectable out there.. I did my best to get her not to take the pup.. But she fell in love..

Re: Dogs with out an affix..

I've noticed in the BRS a couple of litters that have the odd pup registered without the breeders affix, later it becomes clear why the pup has gone to the stud dog owner so a possible stud fee and the pup then gets their affix added on at the end.
