It seems to be the sign of a novice stud dog owner who doesn't know enough to be of any help at all to a bitch owner
Unfortunately too many bitch owners don't bother to do enough research and fall for this, thinking it's a good enough reason to use the dog ![]() |

Surely neither bitch nor dog 'decide' on the number of pups. Strong sperm are more likely to fertilise more eggs but the bitch has to produce the eggs in the first place - so given that both are fertile it is the luck of the draw how many eggs are fertilised and how many of those fertilised eggs go on to become full term pups.
