Re: Labour has started

You normally expect a puppy 40 minutes after the sack has appeared/ popped

Dont know if you are in UK but vets are under pressure not to perform a second c-section. If you are happy with this one litter it might be for the best to spey her. Good luck with mum and pups

Re: Labour has started

Yes I am in the UK. I'm def going to get her spayed I just wasn't sure that the vet saying this would happen again was 100%. Most of the things I have read regarding slow or no contractions are more to do with having a dead pup inside or the positioning of the pup. If that is the case I can't see how that would have mean the same would necessarily happen again. I've learnt there are very knowledgable people on here so I'm happy now!

It is important to know that Primary inertia also runs along certain lines so it is believed to have some sort of hereditary component too. Types of inertia are explained here on my website

I re-read the original posts and the dog wasn't contracting, although water broke. The pup was big, she couldn't pass it very well, and it required 2 shots of oxytocin. Isn't it more responsible to take her to the vet because this sounds like the sort of time when an emergency C is in order, than to just wait and see until something goes horribly wrong?

Re: Labour has started

Ha Ha yes Clare getting more sleep now. My proper whelping box turned up after a 3 week wait (long story) and I feel more confident about leaving the pups for a nap in my own bed so I'm not so bleary eyed anymore. My husband has even remembered who I am!!!! Pups have all more than doubled their birth weights now and mum is more aware of them crawling around her.
