Exclamation When do i rehome puppies?

We have 4 puppies that will be 6 weeks old in the morning. They are all eating dry food and drinking water. They are in a puppy pen and mum gets in and out when she pleases. She wont let them feed from her anymore and we have to control their play fighting.

My question is:

Is there any reason why they cant leave for their new homes this week coming?

Re: When do i rehome puppies?

8 weeks is the norm although some toy breeds go at 12 weeks.

what breed are they?

Re: When do i rehome puppies?

Yes, they need to learn a lot from each other and you should have started the socialisation process too before they go to their new homes.
Another couple of weeks at least. What breed are they as it will depend on thier breed too.

Re: When do i rehome puppies?

even if she's not feeding them, the pups still need to learn socialisation skills and bite inhibitation from her and the other pups. The minimum they should leave is 8 weeks, and most breeders keep them longer if they feel that is necessary.

Re: When do i rehome puppies?

not before 8 weeks then. are they up todate with worming and nails clipping? just a thought, if nails aren;t clipped could be reason mum don't want to know them, even for rough n tumble play..

Re: When do i rehome puppies?

They have a lot of learning to do, learning that they can only do from each other.

If I remember correctly one of those is to do with play fighting/mouthing - they will learn from each other that if they bite and the other pup squeals that they have gone too far and have to stop.

Re: When do i rehome puppies?

You should not be controlling their play fighting, just supervising. While they are play fighting, they are learning from each other, as Purple Crow says. They won't hurt each other.
