Chihuahua maturity

Hello there..

could any1 tell me if its possible for chihuahuas to get pregnant at age of 6 months? If so, is there and way other than spaying I can do to prevent pregnancy?

Baby London and Paris are 6 months old and they sometime play with neighbour's mature dogs and I don't to take the risk and get them pregnant, they are too young for that!!

Plz I need a professional answer

Thnx for ur valuable time

Abraham

Re: Chihuahua maturity

Dogs can and do go into season and get pregnant at 6 months. You do know what the symptoms of them going into season are I presume as you have two bitches? If they go into season keep them away from any intact dogs on lead in the garden if the neighbours have intact males etc. It is very dangerous to them to get pregnant at 6 months especially in such a tiny breed. If they do get pregnant you can get them an injection called mismate which will stop the pregnancy if you see them being mated take them to the vets and get them this. Otherwise they can be spayed

Re: Chihuahua maturity

Would you happen to know if your bitch(s) have had their first season?

A dog can get pregnant during their first season, depending on the breed this can be anywhere from 5 and a half months of age to 2 years old.

If you are not planning to breed it may be best to have them spayed and until then keep them away from next doors dogs.

Thanks darling, that was helpful.

I will get them spayed ASAP but the problem is that they only had their first shot of vaccination which was in October ad they didn't have the second (re-boost) shot. So if I want to vaccinate them again, I would wait 3 more weeks (they might be pregnant) for the other shot. my question is: can I spay them with only a shot of vaccination?

thnx

You can spay them without vaccinations no problem.

Re: Chihuahua maturity

They only had their first set of shots not the boosters 2 weeks later? Shouldn't be a problem

They might be pregnant??? Did an entire dog get to them during their season?? Have they had their first season yet? In all honestly I would take them to the vet if they have had their season and you think an entire dog has got to them you should get the mislaid jab for them, they are still pups and you don't know the breed/size/lines of the dog. Chis are not easy shrouded due to their size!! I would really urge you to take the girls to te vet

If they haven't had their season it would make sense to have tem both spate prior to this to save any problems in future
