Re: Keeping 2 puppies

Hi
We have done this and it was the hardest work of our lives trying to train, socialise and care for two dogs of the same age. We found that training the two litter sisters we had separately was the best bet. They were too interested in each other to want to learn good manners! They are both 7 and are lovely calm (for Dalmatians anyway) dogs.
Saffron lives with us and my Mom has her litter sister Lottie Mom lost my Dad and her two Dalmatians within a month so Lottie went to look after her!
I love both dogs dearly but I would never have two puppies from the same (or other) litter again.
Good luck with whatever you decide.

Re: Keeping 2 puppies

Jess on here kept a whole litter of pugs I think. I don't think I could sounds like far too much hard work to make sure they're not too dependant on each other

Dougflo is on a distinguished road
Re: Keeping 2 puppies

Dougal and Flo are now 9 months old Norfolk Terriers, brother and sister (and yes, I now know all the negative theory around this but didn't back then!)......phew what to say, think if I'd known just how hard it would be in I wouldn't have done it but just sooooo glad I didn't know as they have brought me more pleasure and happiness and fun than I've had in the past few difficult years. I think it helps that the breed are just such fun loving sociable dogs BUT..they are very mischievous and it's not just double trouble, feels like quadruple! They just seem to delight in finding naughty stuff to do together, they're also very stubborn and toilet training has been a nightmare, I've noticed recently that they now sleep in their own beds sometimes but, on the whole are quite inseparable. When Dougal was castrated at 6 months and was in the vets for a few hours Flo was quite beside herself wandering around in a bit of a panic looking for him. Sometimes, the play fighting gets too much and I have to separate them for a few minutes but this isn't too often and they're not aggressive at all. I am important to them both but they are not as 'needy' as other dogs I've had and don't have to follow me around and sit outside the toilet door etc! I work from home and have people regularly in and out of the house and they are so chilled about it all
