I am guessing its there incase the first litter all dies? I cant think of any other good reason to take more than 1 litter from a bitch a year.
you couldn't at one time but they lifted the restrictions a couple years or so ago

How disgusting.

That would just encourage bad breeding imo.

It always breaks my heart when you see the ex breeding bitch's from bad breeders who have had so many litters their belly sags down to the floor.
We had a ex breeding staff growing up and her belly never did go back to normal.

I know you can only take (3 or 4 I cant fully remember) litters from a bitch but I seriously thought if they would restrict C-sections and number of litters they would restrict the amount of time to leave between litters.

I was looking through past posts on here last night.... There was one from a merle great dane, who had one litter, needing a c section, then was in whelp the next season, the litter was born 3 weeks before the previous litter turned 6 months!

Yeah it's horrible isn't it.

When I see those poor ex breeding bitches on Many Tears it saddens me. Their poor bellies and teats virtually dragging on the floor

Some bitches can go that way after a single litter - but in the main, I would bet on many of these bitches being this way due to lack of muscle tone and any decent aftercare than the number of litters they've had.

Tanya - that litter you refer to is unreal and saddening

SL - whilst in the main (with one or two exceptions) I am not a supporter of back to back litters (a bitch may have 14 months between seasons and have back to back litters and you would be none the wiser) - I do have concerns on the rules on this being tightened as mentioned above - because I suspect it would actually lead, with unethical breeders, to more unregistered litters and therefore even less traceability of progeny and ancestry, health issues etc

Plus - there could be genuine reasons why a litter just falls short of the 12 month period - and it would make these litters unregisterable - or a lot more admin to go through an appeals process - and more admin would ultmately equal more cost for breeders who already fork out large sums to breed properly.
