Accredited breeders

When looking on the KC website for AB's, it states that some have chosen to wth hold their info. Why would you do that? If you ring the KC would they give you a full list including those choosing to remain private??

Re: Accredited breeders

I suppose it stops those that aren't really interested in a puppy from phoning

Re: Accredited breeders

Perhaps if they don't breed every year they don't want to be constantly phoned (though, personally, I'd like to think that if I was looking for a puppy in the future, I could call breeders for advice and information- wheather they have pups available at that time or not).

Re: Accredited breeders

I don't know why they would want their details with-held. (I have to say I've wondered the same).

I hardly ever breed - but having your details out there does encourage phonecalls and it helps us to guide people to other responsible breeders who may have puppies avaiable.

If those networks don't exist - then it would be all too easy for people (particularly those who don't want to wait) to end up rushing in and getting pups from BYB and PF

Re: Accredited breeders

What worries me more is the fact that the unscrupulous breeders can advertise that they are AB's and say they requested the contact with held!

That thought also entered my mind, but then - in the same breath - what would they stand to gain from that?

I have to say, being an ABS gives those with websites the capacity to display the logo - however, it doesn't take much then for a puppy buyer to get confused if that information cannot be verified (as in having the right to display that logo).

I did recently contact them (and I know a number of others did too) over someone who was blatantly displaying the logo, just one of their dogs had been hipscored - no other tests - and was openly breeding crosses - lets just say I was disappointed at the response

A good way of checking out breeders is to back order breed supplements from the KC, they are about £5.00 each and for every group Working, toy etc.
one is printed every 3 months. It contains breeders who have registered pups in the previous 3 months. It will also give you all the info, like how may litters the bitch has had, when born, number of pups they have had, age of the bitch. For £20.00 you can get the previous years, great way of checking out whos up to what, and you can spot the small breeders as opposed to the ones that are producing a lot of litters. Good way of checking what the breeder is telling you is true too. Also covers health test carried out in the previous 3 months in the back and what the results were.
canuckjill and dexter like this.
