Re: How many breeding bitches?

I believe different councils require different things, Mines having more than 3 litters a year. I believe you can ring the council of which ever town and they will tell you their requirements.

Re: How many breeding bitches?

I think it would depend on what your local council says. Some councils follow the 5 litters or more rule and some base it on the number of bitches.
If the Welsh Assembly have their way though, everyone with 3 or more breeding bitches and having either 2 litters per year or 10 puppies or more will be required to have a licence and the rest of the country will soon follow.

Our council only allows 2. Any more and you need a license.

We are two I believe Hawksport. But for those who are determined there is always a way around these rules. Sadly.

Re: How many breeding bitches?

The basic law as it stands at the moment is 5 litters in a year - although some local councils vary this in terms of litters and breeding bitches.

In Wales, very shortly - one bitch for a large breed could force you to need a license

The issue is, what is deemed as a breeding bitch? In the new proposed law in Wales it is any entire bitch over 6 months old

I have 5 entire bitches

One is too old, one has high hipscores, another really did not enjoy the whole mating / pregnancy thing so we've decided not to breed her again, which leaves me with two youngsters - one of whom I definitely intend to breed from.

So yes - in theory I have five breeding bitches - in reality I have one (maybe two).

I am aware there are health benefits from neutering as they get older -but the number of mixed households where harmonious relations have been shattered through neutering one, causing absolute and unmanageable chaos - my reluctance is clear.

I have 5 bitches and 2 dogs all entire who live very harmoniously side by side - the number of cross words between them can be counted on one hand - if that goes pear shaped - what then?

our says 1!. so i'm ok.

i have yet to meet anyone round here with a breeders license. does anyone actually check on breeding establishments?.

theres a puppy farmer nearby (they call them selves a hobby breeder!) who churns out labradoodles and now has labs. no mention of being licensed

Hmm, don't you just love 'em,........... NOT

It makes me so angry and they have the gall to say 'wonderful example of breed' when in reality, it is quite oviously not
