New member asking for advise

Hi.
I am new to site and have read most of the comments on thinking os breeding your dog.
I have a 18 month KC registered Bolognese dog who I would like to offer for stud. My dog is and was always intented as a family pet and we have not been interested in showing him. He is a beautiful natured animal and I would like to gain a puppy from his potential litter. I havn't had the forum reccomended test but he has a pet passport and vet plan for tick and worming treatments.
Any advice would be welcome but although I understand the view against breeding when there are so many unwanted animals I will only continue if the circumstances are right. My personal reasons for choosing a KC pet over a rescue is that have a large family and busy life and wanted some gauruntees when choosing a pet.
Thanks for reading

Re: New member asking for advise

Have you considered keeping him just as a pet. It would be far easier to go back to his breeder for another one or a relative of him.

Unless you have experience breeding litters and are extremely knowledgable on mating techniques, the risks to the dogs during mating, then I seriously recommend you stay away from offering your dog at stud. It is a very very risky job for the stud and if you value his safety I'd keep him purely as a pet. There is always a lot of come back on a stud owner, more than that of a bitch owner. Out of the two (I have done both) I would sooner do the bitch side of things anyday. I DREAD mating.

I invite you to take a look at my site below (Thinking Of Breeding Your Dog?)
