accidental breeding - your experiences

I'm writing an article about accidental breeding for a pet magazine. I'm looking for people who have experienced an unexpected dog pregnancy who are prepared to tell me what happened? How did it happen? Did you decide to go through with the pregnancy? If not, what helped you make that decision? If you went ahead and had puppies, how did it go? Were there any problems? How did you find homes for the puppies?

If any of this has happened to you, I'd love to hear your story. You can remain anonymous if you'd prefer.

Many thanks

Re: accidental breeding - your experiences

A very good friend of mine resently had unplanned litter.
The bitch's son managed to get out and mate with his mother! the bitch was taken to the vets for a mismate jab straight away.
7 weeks later the bitch showed signs of pregnancy, she took her back to the vets and vet said she is 100% not in whelp and it's just a phantom. 2 weeks later the owner wakes up to find her bitch in the early stages of labour and later had 7 puppies. Thankfully all the puppies seem ok. Now she is a very experienced breeder and this is the 4th time I have heard of the mismate not working.
Puppy sales are very very slow at the moment across all breeds and now has to find homes for unregistered puppies

Re: accidental breeding - your experiences

my only experience is ..............my sable dog mated my 11 mth old blue merle bitch on her 20/21 st day( took him all of 10 secs) , both maidens , took her to have the mismate jab for obvious reasons and she never had any more seasons!
