Off food any suggestions

It`s now been 3 days since Dizzy had the pups after a section. She is still really reluctant to eat & drink (water or dog food)

I`v been giving her a bowl of the whelpi now & again & she seems to drink this & managed to get her to eat some scrambled egg if i hand feed it too her but won`t touch anything else.

Is this just normal after a section? The pups are doing really well & feeding more or less constantly / gaining weight.
So its just really Dizzy that i`m a little concerned about.

Any suggestions on the best foods to try her with until she will eat her fish4dogs again?

Thanx

Might be worth trying soaking her dog food and then giving her little bits at a time.
I know when Amber had her pups (although not a section) i had to feed her handfuls at a time while she was in the whelping box.
She wouldn't come out to eat for quite a while.
Maybe even a wee bit of raw tripe.

Just try and feed her anything she'll eat.... try her with all sorts. Obviously she missed the vital nutrients from the placentas. Try not to feed her foods she wouldn't normally eat too much. With the anti bios, stress from surgery and different foods she is likely to develop the runs, so just be on your guard

I found chicken and chicken soup on her meal encourage my girl to eat after having pups.

Maybe try some Butchers tripe? Smells as good to them as cat food, and that ALWAYS works

So long as the pups are feeding okay I wouldn't worry too much about her appetite. It'll come back, but in the meantime try to tempt her with something nice, and preferably wet as it'll help her fluid intake. And you might find that a spot of goats milk in her water makes it more interesting.

As others have said, try her with anything and everything. She needs to replace what the puppies are taking or she could go downhill quickly

You could try some minced beef/lamb/chicken, sausages, sardines etc. Rice pudding went down great with our Coco, I gave a little bit on it's own and also mixed a spoonful in with some puppy food.

Rosie was the same and she los a lot of weight. We put her on those chicken squares you can buy but cooked it she loved that when it was warm scrambled eggs were always a hit. She also liked warm chicken soup on her dry food so it soaked in a bit, gave her quite bad wind mind you

Re: Off food any suggestions

Thanks for the replies

She is eating a little better, not much more. She is turning her nose up even at most treats she would normally wolf down. The scrambled eggs are the only thing she seems to really enjoy right now & the wet puppy food if i hand feed her it.

She had her check up at the vet yesterday & they said she isn`t underweight & the pups are doing fine, so she isn`t concerned about her at the moment.

I`ll just give eveyones suggestions a go. Pretty much am prepared to give her whatever she will eat at the moment To keep her strength up
