What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

Hiya,

A discussion on another thread prompted this one, I didnt want to take that one off on a tangent and would be interested to see other peoples opinions.

On my website I have:

Photos of the individual dogs - At shows and at home where possible
Breeding information (their parents)
Health testing and results
List of breed clubs we are members of.
Show results
Show Critiques
Pictures of previous puppies (and current ones when we have a litter)
Breed information, including a breed standard
"Other Residents" - a page for some of my other pets. I put this on when I first set the website up and people loved it! They seemed to enjoy seeing the variety of other animals our dogs are raised with!

We dont have:

A "puppy area" which seems popular on some puppy farm websites and I think it does fool potential buyers. Our pups are born and raised in the living room, they are brought up as part of the family and therefore dont have a designated area.

Too much information about when and what we will be breeding as I prefer to have potential owners contact me if they like our "type" of dog, I think the website shows enough information to give a good idea of what we;re about and how the dogs live, without answering ALL the questions they may have.

Information about where individual dogs live. After having two poisoned last year and knowing how many hits my website gets (over 100k!) I wouldnt want random strangers to know specificially where my dogs live.

My website is a work in progress still, I had to completely overhaul it recently as it crashed and got lost!! So it needs some updating, but i've never had anything but positive comments on it

What do you like to see on breeders websites? Or if you are a breeder with a website, what do you have on it?

Re: What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

On my website I have:

A about us page.
A news page.
A page for the shelties.
A page for the other animals.
A gallery.
A page called about us as breeders which offers more information.
And a contact page.

On the sheltie pages we show what health tests have been done and the results, when the next are due and pedigree.

I am always put off if there is not enough information, or the words "all our dogs are health tested" but no information as to what they were tested for and what results they had.

I don't know if that's from what I said but if it is, I meant where the dogs live as in, in the home, or in a kennel...I'd rather see them happy and warm, relaxing on a sofa/doggy bed than behind bars with nothing but a concrete floor.
If you didn't mean that from what I said, then nevermind!

I didnt really put anything related specifically to what you said on the other thread, but picking up on the point you made about how I should explain who owns which dogs in regards to me and my mum having four between us, that is the reason I dont. And because they are all shown and bred under the one affix

Re: What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

I agree, i'd go for pups raised in the home, regardless of the website. I also think a chat with the breeder and a visit can tell me much more than any website. I think i'd be wary of giving out too much info either in case of poisoning/dog napping, like the Husky pups on here recently.

I know a breeder of Mals & Akita's, nice lady but boasts she never re homes a dog once past mating - instead she has over 20 in her kennels. No life for a dog IMO and how can she give them all the love and attention they deserve?

If I buy a dog I want it to have been a part of the family just as it would be with me. Flashy websites don't cut any ice as far as i'm concerned - to see for yourself in the flesh is much better!

Re: What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

I always look for health tests, and pictures of the dogs and other animals. If I'm interested, I always ask for a viewing, so I can see their adult dogs

Re: What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

I don't have that much on mine really.

Home page - shows each of the dogs
Individual pages - for each of the dogs, gives a bit more info and some photos
Show Results - lists results and critiques in date order
Grooming - these dogs take a fair bit of work so have pics and info to help others
Puppies - Shows puppy plans with pics of the parents and last litter
Guestbook - so people can leave comments or just say 'Hi'

That's about it really. I don't have my address on there, anyone wishing to get in touch can do so via email.

I've bought some fantastic, beautifully bred pups from fully health tested parents that have been brought up in kennels. They are well socialised and have absolutely no problems living inside when they get here . Equally, I've see some pretty awful dogs raised in the home.

In my experience (and others I know too) where the pups have been raised if of little importance.

Re: What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

My website is rambling and a bit quirky and I hope it reflects the huge part our dogs play in our lives . There's also a bit about my hubbys work and some short stories he's written based on some of his experiences

..It's a work in progress and I'm always changing things on there but it includes stuff such as the dogs health test and show results , future breeding plans, links to other websites, an introduction to our breed , some puppy training advice , and bits about our home and family and all about who we are

take a look ! www.simplesite.com/grondemon

Re: What Do You Expect From Breeders Websites/Whats On Yours?

All sounds like good info to me.
I agree with what Malmum said, i would be more interested in seeing the pups, their living conditions, and both parents when possible.
One thing that makes me cringe is when people breeding chihuahuas call the small ones Teacup.
There is no such thing and is usually used to try to make more money.
Same with 'rare' colours, so the price is more.
That's a huge red flag and i would avoid them like the plague. lol
Have seen a few ads and websites like that.

I also like to know pups will be socialized as much as possible and wont be leaving mum and littermates too early.
