Re: how to find a stud?

I've got to say this, being 'just' pet people in this breed might not be a bad thing. The show GSD's are bloody awful

I was fortunate enough to see a really nice straight backed GSD at a show last year and was keeping my fingers tightly crossed for it, beautiful dog, needless to say it didn't win, instead a froghopping roachback won disgusting I say, disgusting !

Re: how to find a stud?

Yes, they are pet.
She had a litter at the beginning of last year, with loads of people (vetted!) asking if she was going to have another litter.

She have contacted a few people now, so will let you know how she gets on, thanks

I didnt say or suggest it was a bad thing, was just a question so I could get a better picture of what kind of stud she wanted show - working - pet..
I have seen quite a few nice backed GSD in the ring - I dont like the look of the roach backed eithers, much prefer the working type - but as far as I am aware there has been research into the roach and it causes no other health related issues than that of a GSD with a level top line.. I stand corrected mind.

Re: how to find a stud?

If the bitch came from a reputable, knowledgeable breeder in the first place, then they would be the people to ask.

Other than that, she could try to find a local GSD club and speak to someone there for advice.

Re: how to find a stud?

I know the owner of this kennel ( from the show circuit ) BILNETTS GERMAN SHEPHERDS he breeds sound free moving dogs with good temperaments - you could send him the bitch's pedigree and ask if he has a stud dog that would compliment it

given that most sight hounds have been bred for centuries with a roach back it's difficult to see how it can cause health problems - but personally I agree that it looks awful - but then I think that most flat faced breeds look awful too !! - plenty of people disagree and LOVE the way that Pugs, Bostons and other Bull breeds look - beauty after all is in the eye of the beholder !

Re: how to find a stud?

i am a gsd person. i dnt like straight backs. i only like the german bloodlin german shepherds as they have a slightly sloped back but not where there backsides are hitting the floor like the american bloodlines. its the bad breeders that give the sloped backs a bad name, if breed properly then you end up with sound working dogs.
