I think it has more to do with 'type' than a copy of the particular dog, you could never guarantee a dog like him, but if someone is importing that 'type', be it because of show or working attributes, then they must be aiming for similar with their breeding programe.
Oh i know there are a few Del Bagio progeny here, I used them as an example only as i loved Royal Star who has sadly gone over the Bridge, the boy certainly left his mark

The point in my thread was hypothetical, i was looking for other peoples opinions and experiences of importing.

Breeders like those of CAOs, Klee Kais, English Shepherds etc may not have the option of using another kennel as the gene pool in the UK is so small and they want to keep their lines healthy or add to them, so going to another kennel in the UK isnt always an option

You have been very lucky hun, how did yoou find the import process? Did you do quarintine here or did they stay with the breeder?

Yes, as I was the first there was no other option than to import.

Well the first and fourth (actually I get the fourth in 2 weeks!) dogs came out to the Middle East where I am now and so there was no quarantine. The second one stayed with friends in the USA and the third went to a puppy sitter before entry to UK. That one didn't work out very well imo, but she's fine now. 2 other ES's (both puppy buyers of mine who wanted mates for their bitches) have recently been imported and they stayed with their breeders for the quarantine period. Both came into the country thin, full of ticks and smelly. I have been really lucky, BUT I researched the breed for 15 years so I know a lot of ES people.

I think Royal only has one direct son and daughter here (different mothers). Who infact had a litter together in 08 of which Royal was grandfather on both sides! Many other Del Biagio dogs are not from him. Sorry going off on one. lol

But yeah I know it was hypothetical, but hypothetically if I were going to import (I never will), I would look at what lines are already here and explore them first. And as far as Mals are concerned, most European lines will more than likely be over here already.

My personal favourite would be a StormChaser pup (from WindChaser lineage), I don't think there are many of them over here.
