How do you feel about the practice of charging more for bitch puppies than dog puppies?
Are bitches considered more valuable than dogs?
Does this tend to reinforce the notion that bitches are valuable breeding machines, where you can make your money back?
Are dogs just harder to home?
I have always found my boys just as precious as my girls

I must admit its something I don't understand, but you see it a lot in my breed. My female cost me more than her litter brothers, yet being a patched Dalmatian she was not show or breeding standard so of very little value in that regard. Having said that, I'd pay 3 times as much for her cuz she's perfect for us

I'd stay clear of a breeder who charged more. Surely you could make more money from a dog anyway if you kept using him at stud?

people who do this are attracting the wrong kind of buyers IMO. By selling the girls for more they are in my eyes advertising the fact that the bitches are worth more as they are going to be bred from.

I would never buy from a breeder who sells the bitches for more. IMO just another way of making a few extra £

I have always said I would charge £650 for boys and £700 for girls but I am a year off breeding so I dont know weather I will infact charge that or not because I have no idea why I would charge that. Most breeders in my breed charge £700 regardles of sex.

But £700 is "the going rate" for my breed.. Though its not uncommon for males to go for slightly less.

What I dont get is some £200 difference in boy's and girls in pugs. For a pug girl its like £1200 for a boy £1000 or even £900. Unless they sell the girls without endorsements?

Are there any breeders who don't charge more for thier bitch puppies, it sadly seems the norm

Is it usual in your breed for dogs and bitch pups to be the same price? I don't have a lot of experience with pedigree pup prices, but on the online sites, bitches are invariably higher priced ... Guess that speaks volumes
