Re: Dogs and Bitches?

This is my take from buying pups in the last four years. Regardless of sex the price is the same although if I didn't want breeding rights eg limited registration, spay neuter contract the price is lower but still the same regardless of sex. I don't get or understand the price difference of the sexes as it costs more here to fix a female than a male, I do believe that the price difference is based on the fact that females can have pups so you can make your money back...No I don't agree with it but have asked several people why they charge more and that is what they said, glad I got mine from breeders who had a set price regardless of size, sex or colour of pup.....Jill

When my mentor told me what to charge I couldnt understand it and still dont but I dont know enough about pricing at the moment to go against them good job I have a year or so to find all this out.
Male pugs can be harder to find homes for as dogs and bitches do have very different personalities in pugs and a lot of people do specifically want a girl, regardless of breeding it or anything. So possibly it is to tempt people to take a male pup instead of a female as they know the girls will be easier to sell?

Possibly...I know in my breed males are alot more difficult to train than girls. So maybe it is down to a difference in personalities?

but surely most people know what sex they want before they view a litter, so unless they change their mind which I guess not a lot of people do they are defeating the object

Born to Boogie is on a distinguished road
Re: Dogs and Bitches?

I don't think it's common in Sams but then I don't ask people what they charge. Boogie's breeder charged the same for boys and girls. I've always charged the same for girls and boys, that's a grand total of 9 puppies in twenty years........and that's another story
I often see bitches more expensive than dogs on "those" sites. What kind of message does that send poor girlies I don't know why I look, it makes me so sad and angry.

When I contacted Alaska's breeder I knew I wanted a girl, but was told there was only a boy left so I agree'd to come view him, left with a girl anyway but alot of people dont know that they want. I know 1 breeder that says she gets calls asking for "show quality" regardless of the sex.

Me, I much prefare the girls in my breed as they are more laid back and easy to train, boys tend to try it on a bit. But I love my Kai bear all the same.

If you want a pup of certain breeding then not necessarily. Very often we get people who just want one of our pups regardless of sex.

With the current litter we only had one bitch and 4 people who had "booked" bitches. Two of those subsequently decided to have a dog pup as we were planning to keep the bitch. Then we decided to keep a dog instead as he is lookng rather lovely Offered the bitch to those people and they decided they wanted to stick with their boys

How do you feel about the practice of charging more for bitch puppies than dog puppies?
No, would never buy or sell a bitch for more than a dog. Same goes for people who charge more for certain colours.

Are bitches considered more valuable than dogs?
Does this tend to reinforce the notion that bitches are valuable breeding machines, where you can make your money back?
Sadly, I can't see any other reason for charging more for bitches.
