Re: Is it fair..........

IMO I think some judges also go by faces not because they know them but because they've seen them win before. I get this feeling with some all-rounders.

Obv they should all know what to look for but for me I would prefer a GSD breeder/judge than an allrounder if I were to show Akira but thats just personal pref

Unless your dog got passed aside because the judge was also a friend of another person showing.

This is something that has been said in another breed and because of it some won't show under certain judges if they know "friends" are showing too. Sounds very corrupt to me.

Obviously not all judges are like that I know but even the minority shouldn't be - it's like a goalie fixing a match with a dive, just not ethical!

Yes agree with u, certainly in my breed u can c the same faces winning under some all rounders but may get binned under a breed judge.

I like 2 sit at ringside and study what they r looking 4 and what they end up picking, movement 4 me is paramount, conformation and how the dog is put together, fit 4 purpose in working lines, some all rounders can miss this and go purely on type and looks.

I luv 2 c them being moved, we had 1 judge, can't rmember his name, but i luved watching his style of judging, he took a seat in the middle of the ring and just moved them all, he then periodically picked from the line up whilst they were moving dogs that he liked, u can sharp c if a dog has a fault in movement, u can't hide it, some owners weren't fit enough lol and had 2 swap handlers, but 4 me he did a great job and i like his selection, evne if my girl gets binned, as long as I can work out why then i'm happy, some judges have left me disgusted and i've even walked away, but thats showing

Re: Is it fair..........

It seems once your face is in the papers you are sorted. There is some poodle people I wouldn't enter under because I don't want to give them my entry. Wouldn't give them the pleasure of running my dog down. I'm normaly at a show every week but I made my point the other week and I think the person was rather shocked.

I do have a list of judges I wouldn't go under again. Like the one at a large open show who didn't know how the group and puppy group worked.. The steward spent 15 mins explaining it to her while we all had our dogs stacked. As you can imagine the dogs were totaly bored.

It does happen - but not anywhere near as much as some people would have you believe. Often, dogs are not placed because they are just not as good as the dogs who win - yet some exhibitors can't accept this and look for all sorts of excuses as to why their little angel didn't get placed.

You also get a lot of the opposite end of the stick - at a recent show we were at, a very well-known exhibitor who obviously expected to be placed was very rude to the judge because another dog was placed above hers - she couldn't accept that the dog that was placed was actually much better than hers.

Re: Is it fair..........

yeah I hate those exibitors who expect 2 b placed and when they aren't go off on one, I've lost count on how many place cards i've found on the floor 4 2nd and 3rd place, if it's all about the rosettes then it's time 2 retire, in it 4 the wrong reasons in my opinion, when my girl got a 2nd at Welsh Rott I cried I was so proud, the judge said 2 her breeder she would have got 1st but the booga wouldn't move, even though he kept trying lol, u have 2 b very critical of yourself as a handler and owner and try 2 c where u could improve, u also need 2 understand ya dogs faults, they r not all perfect specimens of the breed.

Cara has faults, mostly cosmetic, but still faults

That happened when Blu won the puppy group. He bet 2 dogs that used to win it all the time so the owners just walked out the ring. Next week at a show the owners kept 'accidently' running up behind us in the ring and making sarcy comments like 'you done well for a change'. These people are atleast 50 but were acting like kids. It did make me laugh how anoyed they were.. They didn't win anything else after that event funnily enough
