Hip Scoring-different areas of the hip joint scored, varying importance?

From another thread on here I have been wondering about the different joints of the hip and wondering how each one impacts on the severity of the hip dysplacia. As in, are some joints more crucial than others, or are they all of the same importance as one another?

Got my dog's hip certificate, listed it has the joints:

Norberg joint
Subluxation
Cranial acetabular edge
Dorsal acetabular edge
Cranial effective acetabular rim
Acetabular fossa
Caudal acetabular edge
Femoral head/neck exostosis
Femoral head recontouring

And each is scored from between 0-6.

Are there certain joints which you would expect to see a higher score on than others? Is say a higher score on Subluxation better than a higher score on the Femoral head recontouring?

And also, people say an even score on each hip (say 5:5) is better than a score totalling the same amount but unevenly (say 3:7). Is it also better if your dog has the same score on each joint when scoring or is that just pretty irrelevant in comparison?

I know its a bit random but I'm really curious now

Re: Hip Scoring-different areas of the hip joint scored, varying importance?

Flynns highest score was at the Norberg Angle and he scored max 6 there. He has severe HD and has had one hip replaced with the other being done in a couple of months, mind you he scored in all but one section so it was obvious he'd need hip replacements. The x rays clearly showed that.

Poor boy, I hope he's doing OK!

Did he have high scores in all the boxes if you don't mind me asking? My boy has a 1, a 2 and a 3 so fills three boxes.

Re: Hip Scoring-different areas of the hip joint scored, varying importance?

Yep - he's the second highest score for Mals in the UK

Norberg angle 6 6
Subluxation 5 5
Cranial ac edge 4 4
Dorsal ace edge 2 4
Cranial e a rim 3 3
Acetabular fossa 3 3
Caudal ac edge 1 2
Femoral head/neck 2 2
Femoral head recon - -
Total 26 29 = 55

Pretty even and rotten, lol He's doing absolutely brilliant with the new hip but the right one will be done in Jan/Feb. The diary of a hip replacement is his recovery process and it's been wonderful. Wish he never needed it but at least now he has one good hip.
