Missinformed by Stud provider please advise

I've hired a stud & had him at my home for 5 days but he's not managed a tie. I was told last night that he wouldn't tie with my dog because she is 19months (the stud wouldn't tie with their bitch until she was over 2) He tied with other bitches as they were older than mine so he's proven. I'm really annoyed to say the least I did tell him & his wife that my bitch was 19mths before booking him. I stupidly paid upfront as I'm new to dog breeding & not I'm worried I won't get my money back. The stud owner is telling me to wait until she's out of season to return him but he's already specified that his dog won't preform...

Has any experienced a dog that will not tie with other dogs under 2? I've read that you can breed a bitch on her 3rd season from 18mth of age.

The bitch visits the stud surely?

How can you make sure its a safe and supervised mating if you are new to breeding?

The stud owner should be there at mating, so many things can go very wrong during.

They send him out to people because he behaves better apparently. They have another bitch & he gets protective or distracted or something...

Re: Missinformed by Stud provider please advise

i always thought the bitch visits the stud too as the new surroundings can be too distracting to the stud and therefore he`ll be less likely to 'perform'

also, is 19 months not a bit young to breed?? i`m not a breeder but i always thought it was better to be over 2? also surely if the stud owners were reputable there would be a contract in place?

No reputable stud owner would send his dog to stud with a novice breeder and bitch.

Sounds like you have lost your stud money and chance this season.

What breed?
