So annoyed!!

I've got around 10 names , numbers and emails of people who, through our website, have exressed interest in a puppy. These are the people who contacted me asking the right questions, who were prepared to answer questions and who fit the initial bill for what I wanted one of my puppy owners to be.

Aside from these 10ish I had one woman who had been in constant phone contact, who was super keen, who everytime I spoke to her was delighted that she had first choice (I've been speaking to her for a long time) and was super excited about pups being due.

I have a family friend who has told me she wants a pup from before we even said we were breeding, all through this process she has visited Pop and, discussed how excited she is to own one of our dogs etc...

and finally one more person who as above has just been on with us 100% through this whole thing.

All 3 have said now they can't have a pup.

Apparantly the first womans son has gotten athsma over the last week

I know things like this happen, but when she had 5 pups then lost 2 I thought 'at least we have 3 homes set up, 3 homes we are truely happy with'

How wrong was I??

Why do people pull you along? Beg for updates, tell you theyalready bought a collar etc ..??

Do people do it as a hobby? pretend they are going to buy a pup??

Its just disheartenng that we have to start again now.

Am seriosly considering keeping 2 of them anyways.

I probaly wont be allowed to but am 99% sure we are keeping girl 1

but i love boy to pieces

I'm going to have to give them some nick names

Re: So annoyed!!

This is, I'm afraid, very common. One reason why we go on about finding homes for pups. Even if you have a waiting list, it's likely that some if not many of these will drop out by the time the pups are ready to go.

It's something to consider before breeding - can you keep all the pups if you can't sell them?

It is also one of the benefits of being involved in the dog world rather than just breeding from a pet. Many homes are found by word of mouth rather than purely by advertising/website.

I'd actually rather keep them all.

If I don't find the RIGHT home then they will stay with me.

Thers no way on earth these pups are just going to anybody.

thats why im upset, theres PLENTY of people I can 'sell' them to

but I won't.

I want to find the proper home they deserve and thought I had.

Re: So annoyed!!

I think the main problem you will have now is the short amount of time new owners will have to get the money and get their houses ready.

Sorry that people have let you down. That's why I am going to have a list of double if not more than the amount of average. (I know its easy to say harder to do) it helps that the stud I am using won many things and is sought after.

But when it comes to breeding Kai and Alaska I know I am going to have to be careful as to make sure we have back up homes. (Although I will be keeping one)
I already have 5 people on list now but I know just how quick they can back off.

Have you re-messaged everyone off your list?

Good luck....and still want to see pictures.

Have put lots of pictures on!

I've got the other 10 who who seemed genuine, rather than the 30+ messages of 'how much iz a pup'

so will start going through them and see if theres anyone still interested and suitable there.

Its a shame but its not that big a set back as i will find the right homes eventually and I will enjoy having them with me for as long as it takes

Very true - but again, it's all part of breeding. It's important to find 'suitable' homes.

Yes, this should help. A good stud dog owner will have people interested in their pups and will usually point enquiries in the direction of of the litter her dog has sired if you have a good bitch (which is what I was saying about being involved in the dog world as so much of it is word of mouth).

I would ask the stud dog if they have had anyone interested in their dog's pups.

PS - It's all part of breeding so don't take it to heart - it's just something you need to factor in when thinking of breeding - there are so many worst things that could go wrong.

Yeah exactly.

The stud I am going to be using has just studded to a pet sheltie (kc reg obviously but not shown) and she has sold them all already including 1 to a member of this forum.

My bitch has a great pedigree with her dad and granddad winning best of breed at crufts and her mother being a JW.

I am working on showing her but everytime a show comes along she's in season.

Re: So annoyed!!

I am having the same problem I had six people lined up for homes for my pups and now they have all pulled out it has been one excuse after another
I have been advised it is best to take deposits before pups can be viewed this way you know people are serious
