Re: So annoyed!!

I have five of the tibetans left here as the homes were not suitable, I dont care would rather keep them than them end up in homes like the prospective ones WOULD have turned out if I had let them go .

They are all lovely and will stay here forever if I dont find homes that suit them, but I have had my fair share of timewasters with these pups and anyone that owns a tibetan will tell you they need special people

Sire is a really good little show dog, won lots, got his JW.

They have told us they will help with good homes if needed
Then I'm sure you will have no problem finding the 'right' homes.

Look at it this way....

There may be genuine reasons why they have pulled out (and they may not have told you those reasons as people don't always want to reveal the problems they are having in their lives) or they may be time wasters. Either way, they are not the right owners for you pups. It's understandable to feel annoyed, but really, be thankful that you have found out now, before the pups have gone to their new homes rather than later when they may have to be rehomed/sold on etc.

I am having the same problem I had six people lined up for homes for my pups and now they have all pulled out it has been one excuse after another
I have been advised it is best to take deposits before pups can be viewed this way you know people are serious
I would never ask or give a deposit on a puppy before viewing

Also, in taking a deposit you are contractually obliged to sell the pup to them. What if they can no longer look after that pup or no longer want it? If a buyer has put money down, they won't want to lose that money and are more likely to buy the pup and sell it on.

TBH, even with the recession, well bred pups will always find homes - even if it takes a little longer. The problems of selling pups atm is generally with those who aren't breeding quality.

We never ask for deposits, if they are genuine and they are true puppy people they will be waiting on the doorstep the day you say they can take their puppy home. I know with the tibetans they are a 'specialist' breed in that there is a lot of coat care and also they are not the easiest dogs in the world to train I agree the recession has a lot to do with it, people are being more careful with their money and adding up how much a pup is going to cost them these days

Re: So annoyed!!

I didnt put money down on Alaska until after I had seen her. It actually helped because once I put the money down I knew I had to save up and not spend like I usually do.

Kai, we didnt put any money down but we litrally saw him and got him. (not the way I like to do it I would much rather get in with the breeder and have updates)

Re: So annoyed!!

Don't be afraid to use things like Pets4homes and epupz/preloved or even the classifieds. I know the vast majority of pups up for sale on these sites are not the best quality, and a lot of people who browse these sites aren't the right people for your dogs, but you can always forward them a questionairre once they make initial contact.

Several lovely breeders use these resources and when used correctly have found some magnificent homes for their puppies! Good luck finding homes for the girl and boy! It is a part of breeding, but luckily keeping all three wouldn't be so terrible if that's what it comes to! :P

I know of a breeder of beagles who lost all 7 of her "first pick" homes for her puppies. She had a back up list of another 10 people and eventually she ended up keeping 3 pups to about 6 months of age, but did find lovely homes in the end!

Re: So annoyed!!

Window shoppers.

We've had the same with our current litter. People coming to visit, pestering for photos every day etc etc, then just dropping out. You'd be lucky to have a litter without having some of these people...

This is the exact reason that you have to be prepared to be able to keep the entire litter if all goes wrong!! I've never had that happen but I do know breeders who have been stuck with entire litters, good breeders too! Waiting lists cant be trusted at all.

We are now taking deposits for these pups so that if people are likely to pull out/mess us around, they're unlikely to part with money beforehand so it kind of weeds out the window shoppers. I've never taken deposits before, but we had the same with the last litter of labs, someone actually text me the morning they were due to pick their pup up to say they no longer wanted him. She'd booked him before he was born and had been in regular contact... It was a real pain.

I did have someone text me to ask if i would consider lowering the price of my pups to £400 cos they wanted one but that was their budget Thats not quite how it works...!!

TBH - unless you have a relatively seldom bred breed - this is unlikely to make any difference.

Unless people specifically want a show dog, and then usually will go to an established show breeder - irrespective of who the sire is - if people know your pups are in demand / you have a reasonable waiting list - they will also look elsewhere.

This is part of breeding unfortunately as has been pointed out - I was pretty much exactly where you were with my last litter at 4 weeks and it is heartbreaking - and this is why I get so cross with people who crawl out of the woodwork and say "oh you should have had a waiting list before you bred" - the chances are, if you are not an established show or working kennel and have a reasonably popular breed - this is going to happen and will continue to happen - it happens to established breeders as well

You also have to remember that if you have multiple possible colours in a litter and people want a specific gender - you could be letting them down. I've had two black / chocolate litters and one all chocolate - they all sold relatively easily but the all chocolate flew out - but I won't have an all chocolate litter to make homes easier to find - I will have the combination that suits me.

I hope you manage to find suitable homes - I know you think you feel you might be doing the right thing by keeping them all - sadly, it is unlikely - keeping two pups from a litter can be hard work - three - unless you are well experienced at it - won't be for the fainthearted.
