You're not the first person to think that it's a great idea and would be lovely to have a puppy from your fabulous pet dog, but unfortunately, a lot more people don't take the good advice about breeding, and all that it involves. Well done for deciding to do the responsible thing, and put your dog first. I do hope you stay around, there are some lovely people on this forum.

Re: Shih Tzu Breeding??

Oh I think it's wise for me to stay around!..I didn't realise how clueless I actually was...all for the love of a good pet! It does make you realise alot though, Ive had smon messages from people who are interested as well! I'm in shock that people who know the risks actually take them..will not be making that mistake. I love my little Georgie even with hi cock-eye, but would hate to think of any problems it would cause for anyone else. Many thanks again for the advice....well needed and taken!

Re: Shih Tzu Breeding??

Can I ask what you mean by 'cock-eyed' ? This is rather confusing to me as a lot of small flatter faced dogs have eyes that seem to go in opposite direction and it certainly isn't a reason not to KC register a puppy just because of this.

Have you asked his breeder why he wasn't KC registered or was this the reason that they gave when you bought him ?

Just wanted to say also that I do know how you feel, when I had just Benji, I would have loved to have a baby Benji from him but he also wasn't KC registered at that time. I emailed someone in the breed to ask how I would go about it and was told in no uncertain terms that as an unregistered dog that he was obviously not good enough to breed from
I'd kept in touch with his breeder by sending photos now and then but when we started showing, I rang her to ask why he wasn't KC registered and was told that she simply didn't know how to do it. He was 3 1/2 years old being registered, has done well in the showring and had some really good critiques. If he ever does breed it will be with one of my own girls, nobody else is having him

Re: Shih Tzu Breeding??

Theres an old saying we have with the horses "A fool breeds & a wise man buys" and its quite true, Also works for dogs, As breeding is not all fun & puppies, I have 2 Shih tzus now but origanaly just Cariad my KC bitch, I read the books , searched all the breeding & found a beautifull Harropine sire for her, once covered theres the worry of the bitches health , Cariad went down hill i spent a lot of time & money in the vets , Then when she had them there was the sleepless nights keeping eye on the newborns for the 1st few days, Cariad then became ill again with mastitus apart from nearly losing my precious bitch it cost me hundreds, Then theres the puppy checks, worming, vaccs before they leave for new homes, KC regs for them all, Yes i did keep back a beautifull bitch for myself and so that i had Cariads daughter, but what a price, Everyone should think very carefully before breeding as i certanly didnt realise how much is involved, you also get very attached to the pups & i vetted everyone who bought one, As for the cock eye ive not come accross this, a lot of Shih tzus have a turn in the eye do you mean this, That wouldnt stop them being KC reg`d though,
