Re: Pug Stud!
Hi, has he been tested for hemivertebrae?
This site will give you an idea of the Heath tests necessary before breeding, also you need to know as much as possible regarding the health status of his parents, relatives etc... Jessygaff Pugs & Griffon Bruxellois - Hemivertebra clear tested Pug_D is here also This is a very serious condition, my friend has a pug with hemivertebrae, he was operated on 18 months ago and for many months was unable to walk, he got around by dragging the back half of his body along the floor or would have the back half of his body strapped in a sling and be carried - a very sorry sight! 18 months on, thousands of £ later and weekly hydrotherapy and he is now able to walk again but by God he has been through it!

Re: Pug Stud!
Bitch owners have a choice of stud dogs, and people with good quality bitches, will only use good quality studs, so unless you're proven he is a good example of the breed in some respect, and done the relevant health tests, you will not get anyone with a good quality bitch wanting to use your boy. Pugs are not for the inexperienced when it comes to breeding I believe, and can suffer numerous problems when whelping, as a stud dog owner, you are expected to provide a service and be on hand to help with advice for the bitch owner(s). So you will need to be knowledgeable about whelping as well, or have a mentor who can guide you that may help.
There is an awful lot more to offering a stud dog service than getting bitches through the door to use your boy. I'd get in touch with the person that bred your boy, and ask them to mentor you, and/or get in touch with breed clubs and get involved with the pug world. It might be that your boy is a lovely example, if he is, there's no need to rush into anything, just use the time to learn more about the breed and breeding, and then reassess your situation. |

Re: Pug Stud!
Its also worth reading the sticky on here "thinking of studding your dog". There are some things you need to be aware of in terms of maturity and temperament changes that can occur.
