The Human Kennel Club!
Fit for function- found this in an Old Our Dogs newspaper. Designed as humour not to be taken seriously.
Oh yes! I did my research, and yes I took my time, Before I picked a stud who would improve this bitch's line, I checked out both his parents, and his litter sister too, He wasn't as yet proven but I thought he'd surely do. His temperament was sunny, his construction very sound, His looks an added bonus "cos there wasn't much around", A chanpion in the making was my own considered view, With lovely bone and substance and good driving action too. The bitch you could say was both biddable and sweet, A little on the fine side but with compact pretty feet, Her ears were somewhat small and she'd a slightly snipey nose, And her jaw was a little overshot you might suppose. Her eyes were her best feature being well set in- not round, And a lovely rich dark Hazel nowadays but rarely found. Her pedigree, however, was a clever combination, Of solid working English Stock with a dash of show bred Asian. In due course four bonny babes were added to the strain, Who took on not just their fathers looks but had their mothers Brain. But I watched in trepidation as genetic faults appeared, And as the sire and dam aged it was much worse than I feared. There was every sign that hips should have been x-rayed, if not scored, As the movement of the youngsters was too poor to be ignored, And at least one of her progeny had problems with her sight, Had the parents both been tested, we'd have known it wasn't right. Now before you throw the book at me I must complete this tale, For the bitch in question was myself and my husband was the male, There is no code of ethics for what human beings do, Nor a Kennel Club Directive and a good job that is too. Cos if we were dogs I know my children wouldn't be allowed, To choose themselves some less than perfect partner from the crowd, And as for me and hubby- it would seem a better deed, To have put us both to sleep at birth than to let us breed!
