database

I'm planning my next litter and thought I'd share with you the BSD database which is now up and running. It has dogs from all over the world on it and by clicking on a dogs name you can trace their pedigree back over 15 generations plus find out health details for things like epilepsy and test results.

Database - XOOPS Site

You can also find out the level of inbreeding coefficient for a proposed mating - try it for the dogs I used for my last litter and you'll see what I mean ! - the dog was Lebeau Colour of Dreams - the bitch was Bijou Du Clos Des Agapornis.

It opens up our gene pools amazingly andsomething like this will be the way forward for all breeds I think in the future.

Yvonne

Re: database

That's a co-incidence Yvonne - I found the database yesterday!

I 'won' a copy of Deborah Fleming's Belgian book on ebay for 99p, and then decided to buy the Pollet book as a birthday present to myself, which arrived yesterday. I recognised some of the names on the photos in both books so did a search, and came across the database. Some of Merlin's ancestors are in the books and a lot of them on the database as well, though not all of the Zelliks in his background. It was interesting to see a sibling of his great-grandfather had epilepsy but it didn't carry through to the rest of the line.

I also enjoyed looking up the ancestors of the Malinois lines we have in the UK.

Re: database

we have a similar thing for Weimaraners you do have to be very careful over the information that is provided to make sure it is genuine as we have had cases of people trying to add litter information that is incorrect to show to prospective new owners looking at their puppies. Our data goes back over 110 years but we've been working hard on it for the last 5 years.

I have lots of the BRS and KC Stud books but your not in the gundog breeds the KC though will do a photocopy of your page going back to the first registered dogs in the UK for a very small cost (think I paid 20p per copy) which is great if you can't source the originals BRS, historically all the breeds are in the same edition so I might have some info if you would like copies of it not for a few weeks though as I'm all puppied out at the moment.

Re: database

We have dobequest.org for Dobermanns <3

It is primarily North American run but loads of European, South American, etc dogs are listed there. I believe it is run by the DPCA (doberman pinscher club of America)

Having these sorts of databases is SUPER Handy

Re: database

We have Anadune for Border Collies, it's really good, you can try matings to see what colour pups the mating is likely to have and likelyhood for CEA, TNS, CL.
