Lightbulb PIX: Afghan Hounds in their countries of origin...

DesertWindHounds: Native Afghan Hounds in Pakistan

BE CAREFUL of the Russian 'archetypcal Afghan' link in the article -
it is on the BANNED list at tiny-URL as a spammer.

Interesting, without the coat that we are used to seeing it shows their striking resemblance to the saluki, both beautiful dogs that I will probably never own

He/she has the cheek to suggest they may not be Afgan Hounds because they don't look like western ones

Re: PIX: Afghan Hounds in their countries of origin...

The reply was. They have been bred for performance rather than shampoo consumption.

Talking Amerikan Afghan type and coats...

BTW, *sport -
did U know that we have NOT selected for 'longer coats' in Western-world Afghans?

it's true, it is only because they now COMB the hair while wet very carefully, and they don't rip thru it with an old saw-blade before bathing the dog, then use a slicker to savagely yank out every mat and tangle... errrmmm - oops? sorry -

i meant to say, now they use those carefully polished S/S combs to gently detangle the dog before and after bathing, and only comb while the coat is wet, thus preventing breaking the damp and fragile hair.

that sounds better, don't it?

puppy coats, 1930s -
