I've found it depends on the lines as to when they have their first season. my ten year old that i bought in had her first season at 11mths as did her 2 daughters. My first collie i bought (totally different lines) came in at 6 mths.

Bella had her first season at 10 months. She is a cross breed but small in size.

My racing greyhound (retired) had her first season at 2 1/2 year old. My whippets have varied between 10 months and 15 months. Amber who had her first season at 15 months has just had her second season 13 months after her first.

My irish setter Zoe had her first season at 10 months but has irregular seasons sometimes lasting as long as 6 weeks.

One of my labs had had two seasons by the time she was 12 months old! She came in for the first time at 5 months. They're all different.

yep agree with Dexter it depends on the breed and lines you have - my imported bitch had her first season at 20 months ( yes I WAS getting a tad worried ! ) and had her second a year later and her third 13 months after that - her daughter is now 15 months and has not yet had her first season

There is a theory that the onset of seasons depends on the weight of the bitch and slightly built bitches and breeds come in later - both Bijou ( mum) and Angel ( daughter ) are from lines that take a bit longer to body up so it could be true !

I don't think it has any connection to the lines you have I have mother Tegan first season 10 months regular season every 6 months after that. Her first daughter Rosie first season 10 months the seasons every 10 months. Her daughter Angel (Tegan's grandaughter) first season 12 months then every 6 mnths always in season with granny. But Tegan's youngest daughter Amber first season 15 months second season 13 months later. Amber's sister Annis had 2 seasons before she wa 12 months old and now has had 4 seasons at nearly 2 1/2 years old.

9 months spot on with 2 of our girls, I can't remember the 3rd as it was so long ago.

Charlis sister has had her season already so she's running late if its breed line connected
I think its got to be down to one of them things i guess
