Question about a few prospective owners

We started adversiting our puppies when they were about a week old.. and in a few days we had already filled 4 slots for the 4 puppies.. to come and view at 4 weeks... no one has viewed yet and when they come they will not be putting down any deposits or choosing any individual puppy.

we didnt know how much interest we would get its been really great.. but the thing is the 4 peoplewe have arranged dates with all have young children (5 years or around there) and its their first dog.

Thats not too bad but since then we have had people call who are interested in showing and gundog training and lots of really great stuff...

what would you do? Would you let these people down and give the pups to the seemingly better owners??

Re: Question about a few prospective owners

Why don't you wait until you have met the people? Instead of making any decisions before then?

To me, the best home is one where the dog will a valued family member, given all the time, attention and training it needs, and kept forever, no matter what. That home could equally be one with young children, or someone that wants to show or work their dog. It would come down to how they would view their dog than it's purpose, for me.

I agree, when you meet people you often get a gut reaction about them and you can ask a few pertinent questions, anyway In my experience of selling ponies u always get people who mess u about and dont follow through with what they say. Best of luck with good homes for you pups

Re: Question about a few prospective owners

yeh i will meet them first before making a decision, and i dont think that show homes will be better than families at all. However some of the people that are coming this weekend have said 'its a present for ___' (their little girl)... and they seem very exited and i dont know whether thats the right enviroment for a new pup thats all..

I was just worried that if they come and fall in love with the puppies and then i say no it will be even more heartbreaking for them

Re: Question about a few prospective owners

I have 3 children and 5 dogs and as long the children respect the puppy-i dont see a problem.
ALL the people on my waiting list for pups mostly have children-so dont let that put you off-go with your gut feeling when finding your pups new homes

Re: Question about a few prospective owners

I don't neccersarily think because someone wants to show or work a dog that it means they will definitely be offering a pup a better home.

I do not show my 2 or work with them but if I do say so myself I think my dogs are very lucky and have an excellent home. They are treated as very important members of the family and go to training classes which they love, my boy is just starting to train for his KC Gold award and we are thinking after that we will start something like agility to keep working on the strong bond we already have. Our pup is 4 weeks into her training and equally loving it as well and we hope that she will do as well as our boy.

Our pups are taken everywhere with us and given fantastic opportunities but I don't think they have a worse home life because I don't show them.

As everyone else has said, go with your gut instict, ask loads of questions and serious puppy owners should be asking you loads of questions too.

I'm sure you're babies will go to fantastic forever homes whether it be pet of show dog

Re: Question about a few prospective owners

I agree with everyone else.

I think as long as whoever comes has done their homework on the breed you know they are serious and this is not just a whim. I got one of my dogs as a present for my son but love and care for her as much as the others, just let him pick her mess up as she is his dog!lol
