should i seperate my dogs while one in season?

I have 2 labs, one bitch almost 9 months and a dog at 5 months. He isnt sexually mature yet i don't think but my bitch hs just come into season, my dog is too young to get nuetered and is humping her in all the wrong places lol. Shall i speperate them for the period of her seson ( of which i think she is on because there seems to be spots of blood all over and shes humping) its all new to me, i just don't want my Saffy pregnant when she is only a baby herself. Thanks in advance.

Re: should i seperate my dogs while one in season?

Any males either entire OR showing signs of being attracted eg humping should be separated as not only is there a risk of pregnancy (at 5 months it could be possible) but damage to both dogs (often resulting in death) can happen, particularly in young/ maiden dogs.

Yes seperate them right away. Your bitch is way to young to get pregnant please seperate them. I know it doesnt seem like the males mature yet but you never know.

Yes you should separate, i once had a border collie that fathered 12 pups at 6months old so I don't think you should take a chance

Agree with above and would separate them. At 5 months old it is possible that he is sexually mature.

Better safe than sorry as you said

Re: should i seperate my dogs while one in season?

Thankyou for replies. All going well with keeping them apart. Their not liking it though because they are really close. Do bitches put on a little more weight than normal when in season??

Notice you are going to seperate them - better safe then sorry imo! You may not think he is sexually mature, but stranger things have happened at sea, and I certainly would not want to lays odds on it!

regards
