Re: feeding

How many weeks is she?

We tend not to up our bitches food till week 6/7,that way they don't carry any excess weight which could add to whelping complications.

Re: feeding

I wouldn't up her food yet then, have you confirmed with the vet if she's in whelp?
If you haven't I would seriously consider it,that way you are not overfeeding her if she's not in whelp,be a good opportunity to ask about having her tested too

Re: feeding

It doesn't sound like a very good vets then, what if worse case happens and your bitch needs a C-Section ?
Surely if these vets can't take bloods for testing then they wouldn't in my opinion be capable of permforming a C-Section.

Sorry I would definatly change vets and made sure my bitch had the very best possible care.

Re: feeding

You really need to take her to the vet for a scan ASAP so you can know whether or not you need to start feeding her up. otherwise you are risking a very unhealthy, fat, ill, unpregnant dog. You will need ot start worming her in 6 days, but how can you if you don't know for certain if she is in whelp?

I woudln't give her tinned food really. There is not much goodness in it, it is mainly water. If you get her on good pupyp complete dry food, you can give that to the puppies too when you start weaning. Do be aware it gets expensive. Our bitch and pups cost up to £80 a week to feed at one point.

Yes it does get expensive,
Maybe it would be helpful to do a breakdown in costs to see what an average litter actually does cost to rear till they go to new homes.

Would you really trust a vet to do a C-Section if they can't take blood for testing ?
I know I wouldn't and I would want proper vet care for my bitch and her pups.
