Re: What is the limit you...

I've not bred but when and if we do the max number i'd have is 2, if we do breed from her though we'll probably only have 1 because we'd only breed because we want a pup from her

Re: What is the limit you...

I only plan to breed my bitch once more (so that will be a total of twice) and only if she is in perfect condition after the vet has checked her over aswell and with a 18 month break. It takes alot out of a dog to have a litter, I mean I struggled with one at a time and she had six and she is tiny so it would be unfair to keep breeding her.

Re: What is the limit you...

I've had one litter from two of my bitches, they were both retired afterwards and spayed. I never thought about taking a second litter from either of them, my goals were completed and puppies were kept from each litter

Re: What is the limit you...

We bred crystal twice with a 3 year gap between litters (2 and 5 years at the time) and Freya's had one litter (at 3 years) we kept atleast one pup from each litter and all of them were my show dogs except Litma he just kinda stayed

When I move out i doubt i'll breed at all, mainly 'cause I only deal with male dogs or the "tomboy" dogs

Re: What is the limit you...

Unless there was avery good reason to breed more, I woul donly allow a bitch to have 3 litters maximum, but am not sure I'd even get round to one bitch having three litters. It is hard work!

I would possibly breed if I wasn't keeping a pup, although I know a lot of breeders don't. I always feel it is rather arrogant that they think it is only OK to breed if the breeder wants to keep a pup. After all, once the breeder's pup is taken, there are still easily up to 13 pups to home in larger breeds, and if they can be homed sensibly and responsibly, what difference does it make if you keep one? Obviously there is a difference between breeding and not keeping one, to breeding excessively though.

I think 6 litters is far too much for any bitch, even if they have had very small litters.

I agree six litters is WAY too much and i'd also say 3 is the very maximum.

Re: What is the limit you...

In Sweden the max limit is five litters.

I will have a litter on my dog the next time she's in heat (hopefully around christmas-time or later), she will be two years old.

Then the plan is to wait 2 - 3 years and evaluate the puppies before the next litter (if it will be one). After that I might let her have one litter more, depends on if I have a Kennelname and the puppies before was good enough in health, mentality and looks for it to be worth it.
