KC measuring

Hi

There's a KC measuring session at my agility club in January and I want to take ollie to it because he'll be competing soon and he's over 15 months so might as well get it done. What do I need to take with me? Anything I need to know about?

Re: KC measuring

Hi

Firstly, your dog must be registered with the Kennel Club, for Agility/working trials. You can download a form from their site and apply for registration, you will need to think of a name that no one else has, I think you put three choices down and there are guidelines on what you can or can't have. The KC actually rang me up about one of my dogs, as all three choices had been taken - however, they had a suggestion that was very near one of the names I wanted, so no problem in the end.

If you have already done this, then you just need a Agilty Record Book, which is just a few pounds, again from the Kennel Club. Write your dogs name and KC Registration number on the front page.

When you take your dog to be measured, you will need to take this book with you, which the measurers will complete the date and the size she measured at her first measurement. In the case of a small or Medium Dog, they are measured again after a year. If you have a large dog, then it doesn't need a second measurement.

Once your dog has been measured, you can enter competitions when you are ready.

Oh it costs around £3.00 for your dog to be measured and you pay this on the day. It may be worth you ensuring that your dog is happy to stand still and be handled by strangers and have a n bar placed accross his shoulders. The measurers are usually pretty careful and take it easy if a dog is nervous, but it is a good idea to do a little work first if you are expecting problems.

Hope it all goes OK.

Kate

Re: KC measuring

If your dog isn't microchipped you will need a passport sized photo of he dog stuck in the agility record book, as the measurers have to sign over it to attest that it is the same dog.
If it is microchipped they will scan it.
When my Zig was measured, she was microchipped, but it was then I found the chip had failed! Getting the photographer at the show to do the photo was really quite costly, so go prepared.
