Re: No more agility for us

Thanks for your comments ,Rusty is such a hyper dog, with Agility training he now directs his energy and madness to this, and as ive said without Patchs time and patience none of this would have been possible,

Re: No more agility for us

Hi

To OP have you thought of trying a different club. I think I know where you have been, with the three rings at the same time and I have been there a couple of times to do some distraction training. The trainers are good, but it isn't a great environment.

We have a small agility club, based just outside St Helens, we train in the winter at a riding school in West Houghton and in the summer just outside Wigan.

It is a very calm club, no manic manic dogs. Inside we only have one dog running at a time. When we are outside the same and it is very pleasant. We have just got a website on line, although haven't done any content on it yet. www.billingedogagility.co.uk Unfotuntately there is a terrible photo of me with my dog on the front page - we were acturally at a show at the time - it was freezing - hence all the padding!!!

Anyways, you would be more than welcome to come along, we are a friendly bunch, all positive, fun and a bit of a social event.

You could always come along and have a look - see what you think.

Hazel, that was a great clip, well done to whoever got the video, very steady!! I love the pull through - very impressive! Need to practice weaves on both sides!!!!

Yep I've got some home made pieces (I'm skint!) like weave poles, hurdles and hoops and a cheapo tunnel, she loves them and we use park bences/walls as cotact equipment too

Please could you post the site link anyway, I'd like to get something more substantial for the dogs I work with. Cheers

Fantastic. Thank you very much, I might just do that - I'd love to get her around a run without her lead!!

We've been invited to flyball this week too because she's so fast and so focussed on her tennis ball. Busy busy busy!

Re: No more agility for us

such a pity cos agility training can be a great impulse control exercise especially for the hyper hyper hounds!! I love Control Unleashed by Leslie McDevitt (the book not the DVD) for these dogs and many protocols can be applied to agility training and competing. Just a thought before giving up. Certainly practicing in less arousing environments too and incorporating some of the CU protocols will hopefully really help

i have decided to stop taking my dog too for the same reason. I have only been twice and she made huge improvements the 2nd week but there was only 1 other dog there. We have got a similar attitude she would totally stick two fingers up if she could lol we have had the behaviourist out and had a lot of improvements but it has come apparent that she is naughty when excited and she goes from calm to hyper in seconds...agility i think at the moment is making that worse onwards and upwards maybe when older she will calm down and we can go back! She is an American cocker/ Jack Russel so a very hyper combo
