Re: No more agility for us
I don't think that the club does private training sessions. I know that at the end of each training session they have a few minutes for dogs that need to be run alone but there are still other dogs in the arena even then, using different runs (big equestrian centre with three runs laid out at any one time)
Selma is approx two and a half now. She is definately maturing, but it's highly unlikely that she'll ever be a chilled dog! She is one excitable, hyper, energetic pooch, packed to the brim with nervous energy! Not to worry, plenty of fun to be had at home ![]()

Re: No more agility for us
Looks like we are having to give up agility with one of our dogs for almost the same reason, hes 2 yrs old and when at agility hes so unpridictable, some times hes great, gets contacts does weaves etc then other times he gets so hyper he wont do a damm thing hes meant to do, he runs off barks at other dogs, its a hard desision to make as we feel he really needs agility to focus him,hes a lakeland x jr and despite lots of training in obdiance and having a behaviourist to help us in the past hes a law unto himself at times ,im sure if he could he would stick 2 fingers up at us at times
(Please excuse spelling mistakes its late but my brain is going round and round thinking what to do with Rusty next) |

You need to update this now, as Rusty`s post to the Handbaggers did the trick, wish you had been there on Friday to see the guys rushing to get their empty bags for him to sniff about in and everyone with slightly toofy dogs putting them in vehicles the moment they saw your car pull into the field so that Rusty could have the off lead playtime he needs to let off steam before then being able to concentrate, and he was terrific yet again at training today, so has been consistent from the moment we brought the considerations in to place for him, and even when Asher the Alsatian accidentally let him have her ball he only did a minor lap of `wheeee I got it` then gave it back - and nope he did`nt run out of the ring for her ball, it was while they were having social time so was appropriate behaviour at the appropriate time and had no impact on his training whatsoever, nuthin` was putting him off tonight, he was fab fab fab ![]() To the OP : One to one`s would indeed help, then integration with one other dog, then two, etc, over as long as she needs, however the possibility of you being able to do it is in the hands of your instructors if they have the will and the ability to put a plan of action in place, [ by that I mean venue availability and time ]. |

Re: No more agility for us
I actually found the opposite with my dog. At home he eyeballs other dogs & will lunge if dogs get too close. Yes, he does get excited at agility, but he more or less ignores the other dogs, all he wants to do is have his turn. He watches other dogs compete & gets really excited about it, but again, he just wants to do it! Perhaps I am lucky as he has never left me while we are practising or competing, his love of agility seems to take his mind off other dogs. I also found that the more shows I went too, the better he became with other dogs. He doesn't eyeball at all at shows, I think it's the number of dogs around that has something to do with it. Good luck, anyway, whatever you decide to do.

Re: No more agility for us
I know Hazel and Colin, and their two lovely dogs Jack and Rusty "the red devil", infact I train with Colin and the Red Devil" on Fridays, and often used to watch Rusty doing his thing, investigating everyones bag for food or toys here there and everywhere in true terrier fashion. We all brought extra bags with us and when we saw Rusty arriving with his dad we placed them around the field and those with slightly "toofy" dogs put theres away. The look on that boys face as he dashed around investigating bags only to find they were empty was brill, and when the time came to workhe was a lot more settled. Everyone at our Friday training played a part, but the biggest thankyou hasto go to Patch
![]() and to Colin for persevering.Well done to you both Jeanette (sorry if Ive encroached on someones thread) |
