Re: Can any breed do agility?

Don't see why not, though I haven't seen many competing. They are the right shape and agile. I don't like seeing heavy long-backed breeds jumping - there's a grand basset griffon vendeen I see around the competitions that really struggles and I think should not be doing agility (its owner has been told this by lots of people but still persists). It risks damaging the spine. Basset hounds and dachsunds also are not suitable. Most other breeds with relatively short backs are fine, as long as they are not overweight.

Yes I think Bichons are very suited to agility. Mine wouldn't be though cos he's too lazy.

I wouldn't want to compete but just do it as an interest

Re: Can any breed do agility?

For fun I would say any dog would be able to do it - providing they enjoy it of course. Don't be tempted until he is fully grown though

He's five now. He's a very lazy and laid back Bichon.

How old is yours?

Re: Can any breed do agility?

My Shih Tzy cross does agility with my son for fun. So I would say any breed can do it. And my daughter is planning to take my maltese cross soon as well.
I've seen labs and chi's doing agility. Although at comp level it tends to be the collies and collie x'x and the terriers that do best.

Re: Can any breed do agility?

Most dogs can with maybe the exception of pekes, daschunds and bassets. My cairn mix loves it and so do my friends mastiff, akita and german shepherd. Bichons are far as I know would do really well. Collies do the best but in the group bichons compete in it would be the terriers and toys mostly.
