Smile Starting Agility!!

id like to train one of my 2 dogs for agility as i think they both have a lot of potential

one is a lively patterdale (6 yrs) who generally isnt afraid of anything but he is quite hard to train and it would take a long time!!

the other is a ridgeback X who is really relaxed and well-behaved but he doesnt like crossing bridges or the car so not sure how hed take agility (also 6)

im not sure (if any!!) which to train or if they are too old to start. i dont know much about agility but its just a thaught as id like to try it out!!

please tell me if they are too old as it just popped up in my mind and im not sure if it could become a routine thing but id like to try it out myself.

Thanks
Emily xx

Re: Starting Agility!!

Not to old providing they are healthy with no degenerative joint problems i think any dog can be trained, its definatly worth a try, try them both, you may be suprised, the laziest looking dog joined our club last week, but he was very very nervous, with a little encouragment and some cheese ;P he conquored his fears and went through the tunnel and over the dog walk, i would recommend agility to anyone, crufts champions have been 9 years old its such good fun, good luck with it x

Re: Starting Agility!!

Hello,
I have agility dog's the best way for you to get started is to go online to the Kennel club web site on there follow the links to find a club in your area then make contact with them they will be able to help you from there.

As long as your dogs are fit and well there is no age limit on how old your dog can be i retrained my lab to agility at 11yrs old and he loves it they have oap classes at shows the poles are low and no high impact equipment so he loves it the only age limit is on puppies they cannot be entered in to any show's untill 18 months old and cannot walk around the rings untill 4 months this is for health issues.

My only warning is its very addictive and once you get the bug there is no going back.

Good luck and hope all goes well would be good to hear how you get on and any probs just pm me
