Agility for fun- at home

Hi all,

Well we've been thinking maybe with jack (were having problems with aggression) we should try doing some agility in the back garden to try and use up more of his energy. I'm not sure if it will help but i think he would like it. Anyway we can't taken him to classes as he doesnt get along with other dogs so we were thinking of buying the some equipment (price depending) and using it in our back garden where we know hes safe

The problem is our garden has a little area of slabs and the rest is gravel and an area of decking so could we still do it?
Oh and the garden isn't the largest but there should be enough room

Thanks
Kirsty

Maybe it would be better to take jack to a dog training class - one where dogs are keep on a leash with the hope of socializing him with other dogs.

How old is he and what breed is he.
regards
DT

Re: Agility for fun- at home

We have thought about this but with 3 dogs its mostly the cost thats involved
The thing with agility i was thinking thats my grandad is good carpenter
so he could help make a few bits. I also know someone who has done this.

Jack is 4 and he's a dalmation. Heres the link to whats happened
Help- Agressive dalmatian/s

I know it shouldn't involve what its going to cost but we are struggling at the moment and are really willing to try anything.

I know we can't just stick bits up and there you go but were thinking that it would tire him out and he and other dogs would be safe whilst he's in our backgarden. Plus when ever we take him out we get comments from other dog owners that he shouldn't even be out or around dogs which is really upsetting

Re: Agility for fun- at home

My friend has some equipment set up in her garden but thats all grass. It might work if you could put something soft where the equipment will be. It might help him because it will drain a lot of energy very quickly. As far as I know dalmations love agility. All 4 of her dogs love it including the bassett hound although I don't think I've seen anything funnier than him doing the jumping.

I have no idea sorry it might ok for them to jump on I'd just be worried about them landing akwardly on a hard surface and doing damage to themselves

Re: Agility for fun- at home

I made my own weave posts which Selma uses on a flagged area. Perhaps you could throw down some old carpet around the hurdles for a softer landing? Ask your local freecycle group to see if anyone is chucking some out for free!

Have fun!!
